McWhorter brothers battle at Corona halt-mile T By Elaine Jones CORONA , CA , MAY II . T he McWhorter brothers tooR each other on in the Money half mile at Corona Wednesday rught, If that race was any indica tion of things to come, big brother haa better watch out for little brother. In fact little brother Tim, did beat Dan in the semi, passing him on the third lap and bringing it on home. In the main it was Dan McWhorter off fim with Hannon, Tim McWhorter and Mike Minnig close behind. By lap two Tim McWh0:ter had moved past Hannon and was in pursuit of his brother. On the fourth lap Hannort lost another spot when Minnig got , underneath him coming out of tum four. The next lap. Minnig got out of shape and it cost him as Hannon and Perkins were right there, saw the chance and took it . It took Perkins one more lap to take Hannon and try to catch the McWhorters, who were putting a fa ir piece of daylight between themselves and the rest of the field. In spite of Tim's attempts he was still unable to get around Dan who was sitting very securely in the number one spot. Minnig started moving again on the seventh lap as he went by Hannon and after Perkins. T ime was running out and as the laps dwindled down it was Dan and Tim McWhorter in first and second with Perkins third and Minnig fourth . Perkins had the Money short track in his hip pocket as he came flying off the line with a hungry Mike Minnig behind , him . Everybody was really. m~ving so consequently it ended up being follow the leader with Perkins leading the wa y, Minnig second and Terry Singleton holding off Randy Roderick for third. Dave Peters came back after recovering from some sore muscles incurred' in another- race. He mixed very well as he came up with two , winning the Open Amateur/Expert short track and the Open Expert half mile. The short track saw Dave Johnson jumping into the lead, but it was short lived as Peters was knocking on his door and it opened on the second lap. Johnson held on until the sixth lap and then his bike went sour and he was out. Pat Dobbins moved into second and Greg Ward took over the third spot. . Peters took no chances on the half mile, especially with Danny Hockie in the line up. Peters got his big Triumph
