He started with the 250 Amateur/Expert TT whe re he got th e , holeshot and said goodbye. Gary Jones was in second with T om Hughes in th ird . It was Hughes' positi on that was in danger when Rob Selvy came from back in the pa ck to pass Hughes on the fourth lap and take over th ird . , The Money TT was a su rviva l of th e fittest. Dave Aldana won the drag ra ce to the first tum with J eff Allis on and Joe Steffen second and third . By th e end of the first lap . things ha d , changed considerably as Allison had taken over the lead with Steffen second and Gary Jones t hi rd . Aldana . having ' p roblems. dropped to fourth. On lap ' four . Jon es got arou nd Alliso n to take over second . Aldana went ou t , Allison went out and Wayne Taylor was more than happy to take over th ird . Steffen picked u p win number two of th e night and with it the bucks . It was Rich Vo lk who was out on top in the 250 Expert ha lf mi le with Rob Selvy riding double and Steffen in third. Steffen go t by Selvy in one and wen t after Volk, catchi ng hi m on la p four. Vo lk ran into problems on the sixth lap and Selvy was ba ck in second with Eddie San Ro m a n right behind him . On lap seven, San Rom a n was in second and looking for Steffen. Time ran out and as the checkered ca me out it was Steffen first , San Rom a n seco nd and Selvy third . Devon Sowell and Jeff Allison had a good ba ttle in the Open m oney hal f mile . It was Allison off first with Sowell tandem with him . Allison was a ble to hold Sowell for two la ps but Sowell's obvious horsepower advantage told th e story and he got him on lap three . Allison kept peck in g away a nd on th e n inth lap he got th e lea d agai n and looked like he might be able to hang on as th e white nag ca me out. As th ey came ou t of tum four it turned into a drag ra ce with Sowell n ipping Alli son at the line . Terry Singl eton was third . "Spee dy" Pet e Hames did it aga in in th e 250 Amateur/Expert half mile . passin g Bobby Garabedian o n th e second lap and running away from the rest of the field . Todd Brown held off David Hu lbert for third . Brown took the TT win over H u lhert a n d Garabedian . Ben Meyer, rid ing at Corona for the fir st time at night came awa y with three wins - both 125 Novice ra ces and the 250 Novice ha lf mile . In all three he used the same game plan get out fast . get in front and stay th er e. And along with the American Motorcycle Associat ions high speed two wheelers-the circuit 's top and toughest riders . The record breakers. The big boys.
