Both motos Osborn shot into the lead right off the start and let second place be fought over by the rest of the riders. Tom Burgess (Yam) rode a good race in second holding off John Bumgardner (Yam) in both motos . Don Bevans (Mai ) followed the exa m ple shown by O sborn as he did the exac t sam e th in g to th e Open Pros . Both tim es, Bevans stretc hed ou t a com fortable lead over Mark Mangold (Yam) . . Geor ge Faber (Yam) was th e first rnot o winner in the 125 Pros. Dean T aylor (Suz) held d own second to th e fini sh ahead of Danny Thompson (Ya m) , wh o hasn't been seen racing th at much lat ely , an d fourth place T erry Ducker (Yam) . T aylor grabbed the secon d moto holeshot with Ducker, Thompson and Mike Prothro' (Suz) right behind . It didn't take long for Taylor to lose his lead as he crashed on the secon d la p after landin g hard off th e back jump. Ducker to o k r th e lead with Thompson a nd Prothro still trailing. Coming out of a srn a ll sweeper Thompson went down with Prothro , who didn 't have enough time to change lines , crash ing right into him . Nobody was hurt but their chances for a win were ended . Rick Hulsizer (Yam) moved up into second with Taylor in third . Ducker came across first with about a ha lf a lap lead followed by Hulsizer , Taylor , and Faber. Duckers 4-1 score gave him the overall ahead of Taylor and Faber. Results in Results Section. Davis wins under the lights at AME MX By lee Taylor VALENCIA , CA, APR. 22 Jim Davis (Suz -Van Nuys Suz.) racked up back-to- ba ck wins for himself in the '250 Junior race Friday night. Da vis was really hot I Ou t of a large field of riders. he gr a bbed t he hol eshot a n d held it throughout the evening in spite of some hea vy rid in g behind him . At th e en d of the first lap Davis had Jeff Moyer and Mark Parkerson right on his tail . with less th an a bike's distance between the first three riders. Going off th e drop-offs, Davis grabbed the lead . Parkerson and Mo yer were dicing back and forth for second , for fourth place Bob Perez and Doug Duncan wer e fighting wheel to wheel. Davis, still holding first . skirted a fa llen rider in the sweeper turn , whose bik e had taken on the fence and was trapped in gear with the rear wheel spinni ng. roo sting large clouds of dust onto th e track. Finally th e engine blew and th e d us t tornado was over . Parker son got a wheel under Moyer a n d too k o ve r the se cond pla ce p osition . Duncan , who had been di cin g it ou t wit h Perez all evening finally moved by on th e inside to take over fifth . Russ Nonon moved into fourth and held firm . Heading into the white flag lap. the riders pushed relentlessly and managed to hold their positions for the ch ecke re d . First overall went to Da vis, Moyer hung on for a second and third went to Ru ss Nort on , Tim Locey (Yam- Sim i Yam ) came back from a fourthin his first moto , to take a first and first overall in the 125 Pro race. Locey had Bill Keese in front of him early and could not get by. Bob Ramsey and Andy Jannings. running third and fourth respectively , were staying in close to the leaders. It was a tight pack all around the track for places one through four. Both pa irs of rac ers. were taking jumps and ,richocheti ng off the berms wheel to wheel and their respective fans we're crazy with exc itement by the end of th e night. Finally, Jannings slipped a wheel under Ramsey for th ird. By that tim e th ere was less than one bike's distance between the top three riders . Fin all y Loce y took over command from Keese and first place money at the top of the hill . Willy Simons (Yam D&G) who took first in th e first moto was now in fourth . had passed Ramsey and was hot on Jannings' tail. .Locey .h ad established a safe lead and was determined to hang on to it. S imons was, reall y cooking and closed in on Keese but couldn't make it by before th e chec kered came out. First overall went to Loce y, second to Simons and th ird to Keese . • Results in Results Section .
