Jones , KTM -mounted Steve Rhyan and Drew Nelson rounded out the top five. As soon as Tamietti and Jones reeled in both Drew Nelson and Morris Malone , they quickly pulled out a commanding lead over the pack . After working his way up from a poor start. Mike Bell broke loose from th e dust and moved up on th e leaders, finally taking th e lead as the ra ce neared its e n d . Again Tamietti followed in seco n d . APR . 22 The 83cc Beginner s. nine-l l years old , put on an exciting show at Indian Dunes as Chris Cheek, riding a Yamaha . immediately took com m a nd in the first moto with th e holeshot and a small lead. Steven Newhausen (Suz) was running in second. ' Nick Romero. who seemed 10 appear from nowhere, got by Newhausen 10 put the pressure on Cheek. Running handlebar to handlebar down the straight , Romero took over the lead , in the far turn . Darrin Vest er climbed up to Newhauszen and they battled in the "S" turn coming into the . checkered flag . Newhausen spun out and fell back to finish fifth . The second moto , it was Romero all the way, with Newhausen running a strong second which he wasn 't about to give up . Richard Mallott and Cheek finished behind Newha usen . CA , APR . 24 Mark Ellis made his backers at Redlands Suzuki proud by taking both California Racing Club (CRe) 125 Pro classes by storm at De Anza Cycl e Park. He literally. ' ran away from th e rest of the pack with his RM125 . The real battle was for second place between Scoll Fyfe (Yam ). Marty Smith (Riding a Honda for Tony Porrini's GT Enterprizes) Marty Wolford (Hon) . who all had a shot at the position . In the first rnoto it was Fyfe who took second to Ellis on his flying Suzuki. whil e Smith was not far behind in third . In the next ro und Ellis was out front again. while Wo lford had a strong grip on second followed by Smith and Fyfe. Their places stayed tha t way right to the checkered flag.
