Breker, Miller and Denton grab ECRA $1000 MXwins By Hal Sanguinetti TRABUCO CANYON , CA, APR . 24 The 500 Pros led off at Racing World with Jeff "The Rabbit." Vidic on his Crown Cycle Yamaha getting the holeshot and mo- 20 toring on to an apparent win until he twisted his ankle going off a jump. Vidic pulled off and left the win to Goat Breker (KTM). In the second mota, Vidic didn't show and Mitch Musgrave (Suz), riding a big bike for the second time, jumped into the lead , Breker passed him with two laps remaini ng, and then, assured of the overall win, waved Bob Marino (Yam) past to help hi m improve his overa ll position. Payoff went to Breker , Ro n Tebbs (Hus) , Dave Foltz (Suz), Musgrave, and Marino . Marty Miller led only half of the 250 Pro laps , but they were final laps . Mark Marinez (Yam ) led th e first moto , then dropped it and Miller took over. Vidic grabbed second , Marinez th ird . "T he Rabbit" led a ll but two laps of the second moto , but Mill er passed him at the end to record a 1·1 victory . with Vidic , Marinez, J ohn Estes (Suz) and Dave Foltz fini shing in that order. • J). hard crash stopped th e 125 Pro on the first lap when Doug Nicoll had his Honda seize in the first corner , whereupon local favorite Lan ce Moorewood hit N icoll 's wheel and highsided. Several riders then ran over him , and Moorewood decided to call it a day - he'd already crashed in the first 500 race as well . On the restart , Gary Denton (Suz) grabbed the second of three holeshots (one on the aborted first start) Gregg Toyama (Hon) got around and led for a few la ps before dropping the red FMF mach ine on a soft downhill sweeper. Denton regained the lead and never loo ked back as Miller took second and Toya ma third . In the fina l moto. it was De nton out first again , hut Toyama passed him on th e third la p and stayed there to end up with a second o verall. Dent o n , now sponsored by Suzuki o f Pomona . won the overall , Marty Miller was third and fourth went to a mu ch improved Scott Clifton (Hon) . The 100 's were a bree ze for T oyama , who smo ked th e field in both mor os. Mit ch Musgra ve (Ho n) was second , and Dou g Nicoll (Ho n) third , all for FMF . CA, AP R. 24 Tony De LaT orre (Mid-Valley Ossa ) took the 250 Pro class win Sunday at Ind ia n Dunes in aterrific ride against John Atwood and Mark Hateley, . 10. .the first moto , Atw ood ( Yam ) to~--::!he lead with som e heavy traffic behind, h im that included Craig Osborn (R&E Racin g KTM ) followed Jim Gibson, second 125 Pro at Saddleback's Saturday competition, found time for a friend ly wave to the fans. by H ateley (AI Baker Suz) . When the riders came up out of the gully the lead had changed. Osborne moved into first and DeLaTorre was coming up fast on Atwood. In a wheel-to wheel battle Osborne had. a wide-open lead going into the sand wash. Around the fence line DeLaTorre got by Atwood. Atwood tried like crazy to rega in his position. Coming into the tower turn DeLaTorre was rea lly cooking and closed in on Osb orne and everyone was on their feet wa tching . In front of the tower, DeLaTorre came up alongside Osborne and tried to take him on the outside or anyway he could , Hateley was in fourth , Eddie Cole pushing hard in fifth . On th e next lap at th e fen ce line , Osb orne had opened up a lead as DeLaTorre went d own on th e back st re t c h whi ch dropped him to fifth. Evan Marcus moved into fourth after the sp ill. By the end of th e first moro Osborne was first , Atwood second and Hateley in third , with DeLaTorre fourth , The second time around . Hateley and Atwood charged off the line together, Atwood squeezed by into first. DeLaTorre was in third and Marcus in fourth '. Later Hateley slipped back into the lead while DeLaTorre passed Atwood for second . At the sand wash Hateley held first with De LaT orre closing fast in second , Atwood third and Marcus in fourth . DeLaTorre took over the lead from Hateley who slid out in front of the tower and let Atwood t a ke over second. DeLaTorre took advantage to open up a super lead as a batt le was being fo ug ht fo r seco nd between Atwood , Marcus and Co le. As the trio went into the sand wash , Atwood ha d ' a slight lead over Marcus . Th e race was super tight between Atwood , Marcus a nd Cole in which anyone of th e three cou ld take second . As th ey dropped int o th e gu lly, Cole moved int o seco nd . Cole proceed ed to op en up a nice lead over Atwood and tried to close in on DeLaTorre on the white flag lap . Cole just couldn't close the gap the leader had . When the checkered flag came out DeLaTorre had the first overall win , with seco nd going to Atwood and third to Hateley, Donnie Hansen (CMS Yam) wrapped up the 500 Pro class with back to back wins . In the first moto , Hansen and Hal Strauss (Mai) charged off the line together, Strauss slipped by in the first turn to take th e lead . Hansen was right on Strauss as th ey headed down int o the sand wash they were sid e by sid e . Tom Claire a nd Mark White were battl ing it out for third . Hansen got by Strauss as th e riders bounded out o f the wash . Strauss fell ba ck as rocks from Hansen 's tires flew up a nd hit him in th e face . Hansen had o pene d up a beautiful lead a nd Strauss was in a struggle to hold off Clai re who was r ight behind him . T he fir st mot o ended with H ansen in firs t. White second and Monte J\lcCoy , back from the Florida Series. and riding for Mid · Valley, had moved up from a poor start to take third . The second mota sa w Hansen take the lead with Strauss second, Claire in third , White in fourth and McCoy in fifth . A battle was waged betwee n Strauss, Claire and White. the riding was close between the three and anyone cou ld take third. McCoy came up fast on White and slipped by pus hing for all he was worth . Hansen has a good lead as Strauss and McCoy slide in to t he turns , side by side in a super tight race between t he two . McCoy had put tremendous press ure on Strauss. McCoy tried everything he knew to get by Strauss. Out of the sand wash McCoy was sliding all over , like a sp eed way bike , trying to slip b y Strauss. By the tim e th ey ca me ac ross th e sta rt ing line . Strauss had ope ne d u p a bit of a lea d . Then on th e
