Director Hastey I deeply regret that conditions between the off-road vehicle enthusiasts and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have deteriorated to the present state. I also regret that the mem bers of this association have lost their trust and confidence in your agency. I will not go into a long list of the successive events that have led up to th e current state of affairs, so I am aware that you are inherently cognizant of the many deceits and transgressions that have been pract iced by the Bu rea u upon the off- readers. • Wit h t his letter, this association will sever a ll but absolutely essential relations with the Bu rea u of La nd Management at the state, district, a nd area levels. Henceforth, our efforts will be directed to the federal level. RUSS SANFO RD President Motorcycle Owners. Riders, Enthusiasts (M .O. R.E.) Sacramento, CA Number 1 tries harder . D .R .A . CA Wrong people arrested W h ile reading th e Ma rc h 16 , Cycle News Issu e #10 , I ca me across a n interesting letter wri tten by Maurice Maurizi. I agree wit h him 100% . People in Sacrament o are getting dri ven off unposte d la nd for rid ing . It seems like the wro ng people are getting arrested . For . example: T he dummies who ride behind houses , they're the ones who give riding a bad name. and t he ones who should be arrested . MA RK W IL LIAMS Sacramento, CA What trophies? Three SUN M.C . riders won trophies at the Invader's GP near Adelanto many, many moons go - I do not recall exactly when, Ed Nemecek. Paul Valente and Rex Harelson are due some brass. I have written three times to the Inva ders s On behalf of all District 37 " B" enduro riders, I would like to apologize for getting in Don Sanford's way during the recent Red ' Ga rter National Enduro - it must have been us slow guys that ca used him to lose six poi nts on an easy run . I especially apologize for all those "B " riders who had the nerve to score better than a national champion class rider. I In three years of D-37 en duros, I have been p assed by Mike Hannon dozens of times . Rick Munyon and the Ho nda team were on the m inute be hi nd me in the 1976 Last Chance. Even those not orious growly bea rs Bob Steffan anti La r ry Langley have passed me . But Sanford has the honor of being the first rider to have to ask me to get out of the way in free territory while he was three minutes early. yelling and screaming. It must have been the " No . One Sal ute" I gave him after I pulled off the trail at the first opportunity. 50 yards later, that made Sanford follow me off the trail and give me his kicking exhibition. Is it Texas tradition to kick " B" riders off their bikes if they can't find a place to pull over within five yards? I'm sorry I called Sanford a dumb S,O.B, when I confronted him about his passing techniques at the alternate gas stop - at the time I had no idea I was speaking to such a dis tinguished individual. Since he is six inches taller a nd 50 pounds heavier than , I am thankful he merely threw a punch at me. I think the sport of enduro 'r id ing ca n be better promoted by National riders who exhibit some degree of sportsman -like conduct. ' PAT STO LL D-3 7 #87H Enduro So uth Gate, CA .
