I Myerscough - not too young to smoke at SaturdayMX By Dan ny Raymond ORANGE, CA , MAR . 5 . Brian Myerscough continued smoking during the 125 Pro action aboard his lightning fast Suzuki. He took the overall victory after early moto battles with th e brother team of Huff and Arden Hadley (VH Hon) , and Bassett's Jim Gibson . Meanwhile, Jeff Vidi c made a clean sweep of the Open Pro division . After making a strong second place showing in the first moto , Maicomounted Bill Rubly failed to finish the second morn giving second overall to Ken Taylor (Suz) . D&G 's Mike Bell added yet another win to his New Year's winning streak Mike Dic k herber blasted through traffic to take his first-ever Pro win at DeA nza's $600 m otocros s. aboard his set of Yamahas, during the 250 Pro bout. Mike's wms didn't come easily, for Suzuki's Bob Elliott was always a strong threat , making Bell come from behind in both motos after Elliott pulled off a pair of giant hol eshots. Lance Moorewood · (D&G Yam) and Steve Rhyan (KTM) were also having quite a race in their battle for third. Moorewood locked up the position aft er Rhyan took a last minute spill , remounting a distant fourth. • Dickherber takes first Pro win at $600 DeAnza MX By Ron lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA, MAR . 6 For 125 Pro Mike Dickherber (Suz) , it was a great day . Not only did he chalk up his first overall victory since turning Pro Results in Results Section. David Czerwinsk i 1 and J oe Suebert battle in A ME's Dpen Pro class, where Bill Hagen scored his first major w in. 4Fl a: s ~ .... w w ~ >- o '" .... 22 o ~ less than six weeks age , but he took home the lion's share of Moreno Vallev's $600 purse. Kurt Sofka (Yam) did his best to take home top money for himself, but bad luck frustrated his efforts. When the 125s exp loded off the line the first tim e , Sofka situat ed himself com fort a b ly in the lead . Dickherber wasn 't far behind , but just out of striking distance. Third pla ce was constantly changing for th e first four laps. Finally, the position stabilized with Brian Hall (Suz ). That's how it looked for the majority of the 30 minute race ; Sofka in th e lead with Dickherber neither gaining or losing ground . Then , somewhere around the thirteenth lap, Sofka's pace began to slaken. The change wass hardly noticable at first , then it became more obvious. The Yamaha 's transmission was slipping in and out of gear. In spite of this , he tried to hold on to his position , but his handicap was just too great. On the sixteenth lap, Dickherber short by. Shortly afterwards Hall followed. Mark Ellis (Suz) , who was running his very first Pro race , had been cutting h is way through th e pa ck after a poor start. He got by the crip pled Sofka and then began to close on Hall . The remainder of the race was too short and Ellis took third .
