Turner had be en slowed by a poor sta rt but quickly work ed his wa y th rough the pack. passing every body but th e long.gone Ogden . Again Ogden holeshot the pack of 125 screa mers through th e first turn and away into a small second moto lead. Radical Ron quickly made way past Myerscough and Gibson, making a quick pass on Ga ry Ogden within moments. Soon after , Turner lowsided through a slick hairpin turn, shootin g Ogden over a three foot mud berm . Both wer e up and away at th e sa me instant , drag racing. Ogden finally made a pass stick and went on to a small lead. On the white flag lap , three turns from the fin ish , Ogden went down giving Turner th e moro win a nd th e overall. Ogden remounted a nd followed in second , ahead of Mye rscough . Gibson , a nd Hon d a's j eff W a rd . • Results in Resu lts Secti on. CORONA , CA , FEB . 27 Three hundred and sixty nine entries showed up to ride the UnLeap Yea r Grand Prix , on a course laid o u t through the green , ro lling hills t ha t surrou nd that raceway plus parts of th e motocross a nd fla t trac k cou rses. T he 250s were the first to go and Jim Lat end resse 'was th e first rider a ro u nd . but it was W ayne Martin who took control on t he seco nd lap to lead th e boys th e rest of th e way and tak e th e overall a nd th e Expert win . The 500s and Vets saw Goat Br eke r and his Dall as Bak er Kawasaki put on some kind of show. A watch was put o n Goat a nd , when calibrated. his average speed a rou nd the six -mile course was 45 mph . This inspire of an air lead th at saw h im nursing his bike the last two laps of the 50 -minute race. The general comment on Goat's riding ability was , " It is a thing of beauty." Experts Jeff Eierstedt and Ken Taylor were the two three riders . Eddie Glove r and Bobby Hart went at it in the Mini Division and this is a rivalry tha t goe s back a long way. They managed to all stay pu t for th e fourth lap but on la p five they sta rted cha ngi ng places aga in wit h Hu ghes ge tti ng by Racine for second a nd Woo d movin g by Wi se for fou rt h. Lap six had another lead change whe n Hu gh es took over fro m Perez. On t he sevent h round W ood too k Ra cine for th ir d a nd a t th e end of eight it was Hughes . Perez and Wood in a scorers nig h tmare th at rea lly gav e the crowd an ac tion pa cked ra ce . T he hal f mile wasn't nearly as b ad as Perez got th e lead off the lin e wit h W ood in second a nd Hughes th ird . For some reason the fight was ou t of th em a nd th ey fin ished in that order.
