At the end of the first lap , it was Art Astle , Ernie Walker , Tommy Thompson and J im Flippiri. Ast le had as mu ch as a 55 ·second lead over W alker the first hour. Thompson and Flipping traded off third and fourth . By th e start of the second hour, at least h alf th e rid ers wer e sta nd ing a round the fir e in th eir riding gear, watch ing. W alk er too k sole possession of th e lea d du rin g th e seco nd hour. The ra ce betw een Thompson 'a nd Flippin wa s d ecided when Fl ip 's smaller bike got hung up on a couple of hills and cost him a lap. Meanwhile Dan Holm an ca ught and passed both of them , taking first in the Open class . In his fourth Hare Scrambles Thompson took first in the 250 cla ss, Four trophies in four races is not bad for someone used to rid ing "one of those sta nd up bik es. " • Results in Results Section. Daniels dominates Austin MX By Greg Labbe AUSTIN, TX , FEB . 6 David Daniels (Ho n) from New Braunfels put on the day's most impressive ride at Austin MX Park , winning both 125 Expert moros ahead of Dicky T u rn bo (Yam). T u rn bo ca me fro m behind in both rnotos but co u ld not get by th e fleet Daniels in eit her one. Nei ll Cooper (Suz) - from Pt. La vaca ra ised some eyeb rows by fin ishi ng a st ro ng thi rd in eac h mota for third overa ll. Donnie Moore fro m Round Rock was fourth on a Yamaha . Ri ck y Bla ckw ell seems to be enjoying his new Penton as he turned in a 1·2 performance in the 250 ·0pen .Expert cla ss for first over all. Mark Wheeless cleaned house on his Penton in the second moto, but a first moto th ird place finish left him in second overall . Chuck Houston rode his Husky smoothly to third and Doug Archer (Suz) was fourth . After abou t a six month layoff. Darrell Croft returned with a new 250 Penton and prompt ly put it on a talented field of 250 Intermedia tes. Chris Sh arp (P en) , was purring the final tou ches on his drive back to the Expert cla ss as he won the first moto and finished second -over a ll, Butch Maiden (Suz) from Corpus Christi was third and Mark Thornton (Suz) , a
