Elliott was out for the day when a spectacular endo shook him up pretty badly , and since he is just returning from that major hip injury he opted to not race anymore today. Back a few places in the pack , Cliff Lett (FMF) and T&M's hotshoe Bruce McDougal had a good dice going with the FMF· rider managing to keep the forward ground. The first five riders to cross the finish line were Reid, D. Turner, R. Turner. Toyama , and Denton. Reid rocketed to th e early lead ' of the second race. FEB. 18 C MC night championships 125 Pro winner Gary Denton was just spectating tonight and so .was usual t op placer David Taylor, so the Irwindale 125 Pro class money was circulated to a few others for a change. Former CMC number one Dave Pessy of DG Performance Specialties roosted over 16 other competitors and hooked the first overall money. Pessy ended up with 21·6 placings for the victory while Vince VanHook took second over Chuck Lunde and Mark " M a d m a n" •Lawrence. LawrenCe' app'eiu'ed 'to be the fast guy overall and won all but the second moto which ruined his chances. The CMC number one plate rider Val Tamietti (Mai) was totally on the gas , riding to the 250 Pro win. Tamietti smoothly won all three motos over the very fast DC· ace Mike Bell (Yam) who went for a 2-2-3 finish. The two experimental Ammex machines of Mike Tripes and Gary Jones cut off the rest of the pack. In the past Mike Bell has dominated the 500 · Pro class on a four-stroke Honda but he is now on a two -stroke Yamaha for DG. Bell followed Tamietti in the 250 Pro class but in the 500s he had total command and walked away with the cash. Jeff Vidic (Yam) came through with a second overall and improved as the night went, soaring in front of the pack for the final rnoto win. T'arnietti had to settle for a third overall which gave him the best part of the night'S money. Resu lts in Results Section. Maniac MXer mauls OTHG MX By Bang Bang BoBo VALENCIA. Dorothy Rowe tops 250 Experts at Elsinore TT By Andi Grangewer ELSINORE. CA . FEB . 16 The 250 Amateur/Expert class was one for the record books. Joe Steffen had the first moto u nd er his belt easily from the moment the green flag was thrown. Dorothy Rowe and Duane Gallager were involved in a head-to-head battle, switching places every few feet. On lap three, Gallager went a little wide on the sweeper and Rowe shot under to take his spot. Scott Polson lost his third on the esses when he went down and Jack Smith had no where to go but over the top of Polson. There was no harm down (except for a few tire tracks on Scott) and the race ended with Steffen holding down the first, Rowe second and Gallager third. _ In the second moto, Rowe was exactly on target as she timed the starter perfectly and headed for the from of the pack. Steffen wasn't far behind but he also had some close company. The number two place changed three times during the course of the race between Steffen, Danny Perkins, and Jack Smith. Perkins and Steffen got too /close for comfort and th ey both took a turn for the worse.
