Parry Klassen (KTM) and Milan Garrett (Mo n) put on a show the spectators won 't soo n forget. Klassen was lu cky to get the ho leshot in each moto . The first moto he kept a fairly la rge lead on Garrett, and was never really worried , The second moto was a different sto ry . Klassen kept a good lead until half wa y, Garrett sta rted gaining groun d . The la st half of th e la st lap; Garrett passed Klassen on th e downhill , and thought he h a d the win, but a b o u t 200 yards from th e c hecke red nag , he sli p ped , and Klassen got him. JAN . 16 Pa rry Klassen (KTM) hosted a motocross school on the D un la p track Saturday, then showed 'em how again today, zapping a faltering Milan Garret 200 y a rds from the flag for a 250 Pro victory. Newly transferred Min riders Don Li con (Hon) and Mark Rou ff (H on ) took top honors respectively out of a very large Mini Intermed ia te class. In the 125 Junior class D ivisio n I, three riders dominated . T he firs t moto with a close finish, saw Tony Espino (Hon) first, J eff Stallings (Suz) second , and Brett Mose ki an (Sill) third, Mo to two was Jeff Stallings, Brett Mosekia n a nd T ony Espino, with the overall win . goi ng to Stallings. For Jim Ellis (Suz) , getting off the 125cc class to the 250cc Intermediate class proved to be a good decision . Jim got the holeshot , and by the end of the race was so far out in th e lead he could have had a pit sto p and still won . Mark Ginder ( Kaw) held a strong second. The fin al c heck e-red n a g wa ved Ba ker By Sallee Hilton PLYMOUTH , CA , JAN . 30 Delno Becker (KTM) was the only Expert to get double moto wins for his Open class overall , as Plymout h Ra ceway reopened fo r a winter race a fte r two seas ons of too-dry conditions. With a little morning ground fog ho ld ing moisture in th e ground, Plymouth's b la ck sand go ldmine·tailing surfa ce rem ain ed damp and primo most of Sunday . In the Open first moto Ken Sisl e r (Mai) got th e ho les h o t but onl y made three la ps before vanishing in th e fog , not to be seen again . Becker to ok over, I e ading the rest of th e ra ce . Second was Joe Duncan (KTM) , who had been close beh ind Becker u ntil th e last lap , whe n he fell way back, fin all y com ing ac ross the fini sh line (sti ll in second) with his handleb ars bent o ut of sha p.... Sisler came o ut of th e fog in ti m e 10 make the second m o to , a nd win it. But it had cleared up eno ug h to see he was on th e wrong bike , so it d id n't co un t. Lesni ewski made th e sta rt, but e ithe r th e bik e o r th e bod y brok e down before th e firs t lap was done and he was out. Pat Wilson (Hon) rook the 125 Expe rt m ot o one , He never got too far o ut fro n t for Dana W axham (Suz) wou ldn't a llow that. Lesn iewski (Suz) , after a bad start was reall y gassin' his way through the pack and soon was right behind Waxham . At the finish , th e two wer e almost sid e by side. Phi l Crane (Suz) held the fourth up to th e very end when Cloyse Holland , Jr. (Hus) sne a ked by. Tom Odekirk (Suz) and Wax ham got out front in the second moto and mixed it up for a whi le before Waxham took over and ran away. Wilson t ook up t h e batt le wit h Odekirk , whi ch was sett led when Odek irk crashed . The raciest riders were Le sni ewski and Wi lson wh o diced it out la p a fter lap, both want ing that second spo t abandoned by Odekirk.
