Round two saw Toyama (with a full tank) grab th e ho leshot once mo re . Myerscou gh . howeve r . was r ig h t behind him . Using the sa me kind of pressure that worked in th e first mot o , Myerscou gh got by on th e second lap . Atwood was now right behind Toyama a nd gi ving him a hard time. As the ra ce went on. though , mo re and more lapped riders began to sep a ra te the two FMF pil ots. Atwood . realizin g that he did n't ha ve to beat Toyam a to come out ahead in the ove r all standings . rode conserva tively fo r the re maining la ps and fini shed in t hird . T he overall victory went to Myersco ugh with Atwood in second and Carman in third. T he 125 Intermed iates were just as excitin g , if not more so. Danny Bu rt t (Yam), who always does well at De Anz a , took th e lead in the first tum a nd ran away with it. Sue Fish (Yam) was the re, howev er , and Danny knew he wou ldn't be a lone for lon g . Sue ca me ou t of the hol e in a very poor position , due to a maladjusted clutch. In spite of th is, she worked her way to second pla ce in a few short laps. By th at time , however , Burtt was a quarter of a lap in the lead a nd it was nearly impossible for Sue to catc h up . By the end of the ra ce , she had cut down on his lead tremendously, but was still ou t of striking distance. In th e next moto , Sue's start was much better , but she was still behind Burt t. Soon, Fish had whittled down Danny's lead to nothing. On the th ird lap, she put her bike right ne xt to . Burtt's and side-by -side th ey ra ced to th e next comer. Fish held the gas on just a fra ction of a second longer a nd was first int o the tum . After that, she opened up a solid lead and kep t it a ll the way to the checkered flag . The seco nd mo to was the tiebreaker so Fish • got th e overall win . Resul ts in Resu lts Section . John Rice tops Old TimersMX By Betty Bird BAKERSFIELD , CA ,JAN. 16 John Rice (KT M) was the master of the Masters class at the Old Timers MX Association motocross at Sprockets Park. While 20 Rice was busy winning, Ac t ivit ies Chairman Andy Anderson (Ma i) was fairly active , riding to second overall . Blackie Lewis (Mai) came ba ck fro m a seco nd -mota crash to fini sh th ird . Carl Casanova led th e Experts a ll th e way enroute to his win, while Rich ard Lyons (Ma i) hung in for second . Jay W ahl , cig ar and a ll. rode shiftlessly and won . Wa hl wasn 't lazy , just Rokon -mounted. Don Ed lu nd _ . _ . _ . _ . _ . _ . _ ..._._._.- Steve Polson a nd St eve Griffith co nti n ued. The firs t race of t he 125 Amateur/Expert TT race had Griffith pulling th e hole shot a nd leading th e pa ck for one lap until Polson got by him . J eff Sp ringma n fini shed third behind Gr iffith . but his th ird place didn 't cou nt. since he was on a 250 . and because he was just practicing aft er a la te arrival at t he track . Third-place points went to Amateu r Eugen e Bro wn . In the second rnot o , th e wa r was really waging between Polson & Griffit h. They raced wheel -to-wheel way out front of the rest of th e pack . Ron Evans rode to a third be hind Po!s~n a nd G riffith in h is first expert race . The fina l race again went to Po lson with his buddy Griffith loafing around in second knowing very well th at Polson had th e win wrapped up. Evans was th ird again in thi s ra ce a nd overall. In th e 250 Am at eur/Expert ra ce. Mike T idwell ( Ya m) got th e jum p off th e lin e a nd that was th e last th e rest of the gu ys sa w of him . The co ntest for seco nd place was a blanket race . Rob Selvy (Ya m) held th e number two position unti l J eff Spri ngman got pa st.
