On the half-m ile Burch was again in the lead. with Jeff Neeley in second until problems for ced him out and Eddie Tafoya took over second. Mark Butler hopped aboard his new big bike and passed Rich Barnes to win on th e Open Novice short track and then led wire-to -wire in the TT with Terry Whyta l second. Butler almost had a grand slam but Jeff Moon grabbed it awa y from him at th e last r.ossible second on th e half-mile. - Mike Baeder , a road racer turned flat tracker. had a double win in th e .250cc Amateur short track over David DeTemple and Scot t Polson and took th e TT from Polson and Rob Sel vy. CA ,JAN. 16 AMC's day of racing at De Anza Cycle Park started off with the 125 Experts. Although the moto was restarted twice due to serious crashes, the race finally got underway and Greg Toyama (FMF) led the charge into th e first turn . Brian Myerscough (SUl) , who got off the lin e in fifth or so . wasted no time in cutting his wa y to the front. He was right on Toyama 's heel s by th e second lap. Bri an was riding within in ch es of Toyama •. .. pressuring him hard enough to forc e a mistake. It came on the very next lap that he ed ged ou t Greg and took over the lead. Within five laps. Myerscough had lapped six riders. In the meantime. there was a threewa y battle for third . John Atwood (FMF). Clint Carman (Hon) and Dave Eropkin (PK) were racing right beh ind Toyama . Th e three riders were consta n tly changing positions. but with Eropkin leading most of the time . He coasted off th e track with an em pty gas tank , handing second place to Atwood . At th e fin ish . Myerscough was wa y out in front , follow ed b y Atwood and Carman.
