The 500 Grand Pr ix was also a California romp , with Emde, Chris Christensen, and Mike Baeder, first , second , and third . T he Open GP howl ed off in to the few remaining m in utes of daylight at 4:00 p .m. and luckily Hugh Humble was p laced in a proper starting position by a grid official. Had he not been, he potentially' could have lost one of th e greatest victories of his life on a technicality .
