; . IIIlI Old Timers at ' Long Beach .~ t ByO.T. Dal LONG BEACH, CAL. , DEC. 12 Indian summer weather provided the background for the Old Timers first go at the short , fun-filled Long Beach cou rse. Roy King (erroneously named as Roger last week) showed the way home for first overall in the Novice class, with Bob Beasley hot on his heels for second. The Amateur class was treated to Professor John Webb's taillights this da y and a few lessons on how to win as John took home the prime bacon. Expert Bob Millner dusted everyone off for top honors today , with Dick Frampton whizzing his Bul in for second. Doug Archibald (new No . 2 plate for '77) and Wa rren Fonteneau battled it out for th ird and fourth respectively. lt's not a beautiful necklace . . . but as a motorcycle control cable it's GREAT! It happened December 19, and the results ran in issue # 50. David Williams (Suz) were the top scorers in the first moto. Tony Wanket (Hon), David Taylor (H us) and Flying Machine-mounted Cliff Lett followed. Second time around th~ T ~ader wasGary Denton (DG) with the holeshot. Coming down the start hill after Denton were Jennings, Taylor and Lett. Denton dropped back and Jennings took over first , holding that position for the rest of the moto. When the checkers went out it was Jennings, Taylor, Alan Smith (Hon) and Lett. Taking home the overall cash were Jennings, Taylor and Wanket. 250 Pro riders were 23 strong and WFO . Jeff Jennings 'was again the lead rider with Taylor and FMF speedster Radical Ron Turner banzai-ing it after him . Pitt Hubbs (Suz) was in I fourth . As the moto drew to a close Steve Rhyan, coming from a tenth place start, worked his way up to fourth. At the finish line it was Jennings , Taylor, Turner, Rhyan and .Bill Rubly (Mai). David Taylor got a fantastic holeshot in the second 250 moto and held a commanding lead until his bike threw its cha in and was forced out for one lap. Jennings now held the lead and Turner was pushing him hard. Clark Jones , Rh yan and Rubly were next, with Val Tamietti fifth. Payback went to Jennings, Turner and Rubly. Open Pros had a sloppy go at it by the end of the day . The Fantastic Flyer Ron Turner was after the brass again as he managed two holeshots in this class . Ken Morgan (Suz) , Rich Thorwaldson (Thor) , and Luke Messer (Mai) came roaring around Webco Hill after Turner, but to no avail. Morgan and Thorwaldson seemed to have some problems and dropped off the pace, giving Messer second, moving Dale Anderson (Mai) lip to third and advancing Mike Yorba to fourth. In moto two, 'aga in it was Turner with Thorwaldson, Anderson and Messer. They finished as they .sta r ted . Cash went to Turner, Anderson and Messer. • Results in Results Section.
