I Come in for the best deal possible! the Semi over Curoso and Mike Bast . then doubled that up with th e Handicap Main win off the 30! Scratch racing went pretty much the way it wo uld look to a ny good handicapper with th e BaSI Bros . sharing a scra tch heal win apiece. Rich MacMurray and Mike Faria showed th e wa y also. In th e Semis Mike Rooney crashe d out with MacMurray the winner ove r Faria and Orlandi . The second Semi went 10 Mike the BaSI over Robinson a nd Ron McGill with brother SIeve going 10 the pits after breaking the tape. In the final it was all Mike Baver Mike F. with a good holeshot and just plain no fooling around . MacMurray tried the outside number on the first lap but the traction remains much of a myslery to most , with lots of tire spin leading 10 fantastic traction and wheelsrands that reach for the ceiling. One such wheelstand happened in a Div II heat with Rick Delacy doing a familiar pirouette, formerly reserved for Charlie Morse at Ca l-Expo . Del acy was running second to Danny Jensen when he went under for a pass attempt and found some traction he hadn't called on . The bike went straight up in the air and rotated 180 degrees with Delacy doing a very good ballet rendition , but getting bagged by Denny Moore in the process. With little or no damage bike- wise the heat restarted with Delacy the winner over Bob Holmes. In the main , the Div II riders treated the fans 10 some excellent racing with Delacy coming off the 40 for the last lap pass to beat Pyeatt and Manly. Junior Speedway is still controlled by the Lil Ghost Lance King and he won all he would on Friday night with all three winners getting hugs and kisses from Super Bec ke all decked out in aT-shin dedicated to one of her favorites , Dave "Su perma n" Aldana . Sat. night Almost double the crowd must have enlivened the racers on Saturday night or maybe some of the $4500 up for grabs made the difference. Handicaps didn't seem to be; holding anyone ba ck . In th e first heat Steve BaSI performed his tricks over Sam Vanderhoff and looney Mike Rooney in a sla m bang opener that set .th e pa ce for a greal and full night. Mik e Faria came off th e 50 ya rd lin e in th e second heat to nip out Rich MacMurray who had 10 do it from .the 70 . Mike Curoso set his sigh IS high for th e night beating out Mik e Bast in the th ird heat. The redflagged fourth finally fell 10 Dave Faria . The semi 's wer e a mixed bag. Charlie Morse scooted by Vanderhoff for one win. Mike Faria a very close call over MacMurray for the last spot to th e Main. Mike Bast came off the 60 fo r a close win over Scott Autrey and Curoso . Autrey had a lot of trouble getting used to the small track. In the two Handicap finale s Dave Faria sewed up the Handicap championship by winning the Consolation over Steve Bast and Mike Rooney who got up off a very hard wall ctash in the Scratch program . Once again Mike Bast called on all his abilities in the Handicap Main comi ng off the 60 yard line to pass into third on the first lap and take the lead from Curoso on the third lap. Autrey got around Vanderhoff and brought along Mike Faria with him for third ' and fourth. Bast beat Faria in the regular scratch Main which paved the way for . two Semi s of the previous night's winners plus tonight's which put those two along with Paul Orlandi and Charlie Morse (by virtue of his fourth place finish tonight) with Mike Rooney, Steve B. . Caruso and Ma cMurray. Faria won the first Semi' with Steve B. forgetting to engage brain for the sta rt . Mike B beat out MacMurray for second. Faria had the good start for the finale that had an extra $400 for th e winner and promptly- led the way out of the gate. Bast dropped in for second but put the pressure on at the second turn. It was a beautiful display of riding by the two and the front row were literally splatted with dirt. The crowd loved it when the two crossed the line less than two inches apart with Bast the Best. • Turkey Trials By Joe Bo lden MURDERERS GULCH, CAL., NOV . 21 The second annual Turkey Trials had a five-six mile loop with 10 sections , and three loops , Section One was a large rock section. SectionTwowas a descent down a hill onto slippery rock covered with running .water and a exit up a hill. The water made the exit extremely slippery causing a lot of fives including the Experts. Section Three had water and rocks making them extremely slippery, Section Four was a rock section with a up hill exit. Section Five was a rock section with a hard righl turn . Sections Six and Seven were continuous. sections with mud , rocks , tree roots and a uphill exit , the m ud and tree roots making the sections extrernly slippery. Section Eight was a rock section with a hard left turn in Sands. Another big point getter. Section Nine was another rock section up over some rocks and the exit was off a three foot rock ledge drop off. Section Ten was a down hill through rocks and the exit was up hill through rocks with a 90 degree turn before hitting the exit stakes. • SLMC's Turkey ron Hare Scrambles By Dorde Woodruff DELLE , UT.
