CMC Carlsbad ; Glover, Robertso'n Dave Haugh dusts 'Dunes AME MX By Chuck Burris By Lee Taylor CARLSBAD, CAL., OCT. 24 14 VALENCIA, CAL., OCT. 24 The 125 Pro action got off under an overcast sky with Tony Wanket (MM) q uickly moving into the lead. Bro c G lover (Yam) pressing The 500 Pros stirred up such a cloud of dust in their second moto on t he Ind ian Dunes Shadow Glen course that it was hard to tell hard. By the time the mota finished, Glover moved ahead wh ile Wanket second and Bob Elliott (Suz) cr uisi ng to an easy th ird p lace . In the seco nd mot a, Glove r got the hol e sh o t with Elliott h ot on him , b ut Wanket go t by both of them only to slid back into t h ird in t he next lap. Elliott moved on to win, with Glover and Wanket finishing second and third. The 250 Pros were off with Elliott (Suz) finishing first. Greg Robertson (Ossa) second and Marty Moates third. The second mota of the 250 Pro was the race of the day. Robertson grabbed the hole shot, with John Smith in prusuit, MOates scooted by and the Ossa boys ran away dicing back and forth. At the checker was Robertson, Moates and Smith. l\larty Moates got the ho le shot and opened up the 500 Pro action. J e ff Foland (KTM) fo llowed in second. Elliott in third, u nt il the lucky seventh lap , Fo land and Moates dro pped out, Elliott slid by to go on and finish first, Dave Anderson (Suz) second and Mike Tripes (CZ) third. The second mota showed Elliott to be quickest out of the hole and to finish with a twenty second lead . Anderson and Tripes' finished second and third. _ which way the leaders went. Don Draz shot into first, putting Dave Haugh back in th ird . That's just where Draz wanted hi m af ter the firs t mo ta wh en Dave took first . But b y th e end of the first lap Dave had passed second-place Skee t Wyman an d was ho t on Dorr's tail. Wyman crashed, putting Greg Perolio in third . Greg passed Draz for second with Haugh pulling out a nice lead for himself. In the first mota, Wyman and Draz had battled side by side for second place all through the last lap, and it was really anyone's race right down to the checkered flag . When the dust settled late ,in the afternoon, Haugh had the overall win with Greg Perolio second and Don Draz third. In the second mota, Tay lor took second off t he line with Payn e and John Parish pushing him hard. Meanwhile Sturgeon , who had been out of racing a lo ng time wi th a bra ken led and just started again was bu ilding up a giant lead. Parish and Payne finally caught and got by Taylor fo r second and third. Taylor didn't give up and he re-passed Payne again and went to work an Parish. Taylor tried a little too hard, on his last lap sailing over the handlebars and valuable position. The losing a checkered flag found Sturgeon b ringing
