The Gripsters wildly cheered on t h eir man, Car l Pfetzin g, in the semi' as Mike McCauley tried like m ad to ta ke second away fro m him , but th e lead Montgomery go t in t he main was unch allenged th ou gh Stan Kemp and John Well s did t he ir best. Wayne .T ay lor (Yam) won th e 500 Open Junior class but Dylan Nei hart , on a potent Ya m mie , was alwa ys ri ght there, going alon g full bore. Round one he got T aylor on ce but co uld n 't hold onto th e lead. Last moto he burned out off the lin e a ft er the rubber band was in place and unhappily lost his place on the line to a not her rider. Third place man was Triumph-mounted Mike Beanway who had b een changing pl aces off and on with Earl Parker. Don Grigsby lived up to that number One on the fron t o f his bike although fellow pro Don Frauenberger kept him busy a time or two as did Jim Redding. Most disgusted rider was Re x Hailey whose bike let go first moto right when he was leading. Next r ace t he Grispters will host will be at Ascot on December 5. The cost will be up a bit due to the cost of renting Asco t but it 'll be worth it . • • Results in R esults Section. CHAMPION MARTY SMITH TCNfDtSTEFANQ Saturday at the 'Back (Ossa ) and KTM 's John Hateley , Bell smoked the first moto , after the pack thinned out. Greg Robertson made his way through to the fr on t of the pack and fmally into sec o n d position, but never threatened Bell. However, in the [mal moto Robertson worked into a quarter of a lap lead over Bell only to fall and drop to secon d , behind the U.S. National Four-Stroke Ch ampion. During the Open Pro action Mark Van Camp took ch arg e of the first moto after a great holeshot, followed b y Dave Gerig (Suz), Marty Moates (KT M) and Steve Russell (Mai). Van Camp's lead was quickl y soaked up by both Marty Moates and Dave Gerig. Troubled by a bad start, Rich Thorwaldson quickly picked up the pace and went on to finish se cond, behind a long gone Marty Moates. Gerig held onto third as Steve Russell followed in fourth . After the dust cleared from the second moto sta rt Val Tamietti (Mai) and Mark Van Camp (Mai) sh o wed the pack the way down the start hill, Thorwadlson , and Moates in hot "pu rsu it , Again Moate s was qu ickly by into a co m mand ing lead after Val Tamietti too k a ba d spill an d dr opped , out.
