This meeting is more difficult than most, especiall y for novices, more like European tri als. Riders started at 10:30 in the morning, did not finish until 6:30 in the ev ening. They cam e from Ely , Nevada (usua lly also from Las Vegas) ; Ogden, Park City and Lo gan, Utah, as well as Salt Lake and th at hotbed of trials riders, th e sm all towns in U tah County a t th e foot of American Fork Can yon. No one , kn ows wh y there are so m an y riders th ere. They .ten d to be o ld d esert riders an d fo rmer lIlXers. Novices m ost ly rode the same sections as the other classes, bu t Amateu rs had more difficult paths on the same sections, Experts more so. A steep ri de u p a m in e du m p prompted one rider to co mmen t o n the alleged natural terr ain. Another interestin g section fea tured a lar ge tree tru nk up off the .gr o u nd , Ple n ty of rocks and water c rossi ngs we re available. Amateu r Da le Pit ts, who u su ally wops the socks off th e Experts, wi ll be m ovin g up soon. He m anaged one of the tou ghes t sections, off-camber wet bedrock at th e edge of the stream, with o nly one dab.
