R uth Arm Renaux (20 0 Bul ) got o ver the bad lu ck that has been plaguing her and wo n th e Begin ner Powder Puff class with a good lead. Richard Hurt (40 0 Yam ) won the Senior Beginner laurels. The first three Mini class riders were tightly grouped together . with Donnie Morrison lea ding. Kelly Kline, in seco nd, took a nasty sp ill. Alan Dryden, who was righ t behind. sto pp ed and helped Kelly get back o n her b ike a nd m ade sure she Was OK. The previou s week's rain kept dust to a minimum and provide d terrific traction to those first th ro ugh the course. Soggy dry Lake, normally never soggy and always very dry, turned out to be quite soggy alo ng the edges and anything but dry in t he center. It was Bre nt Wall ingsfo rd (250 Hu s) who was first at t he end o f 3 4 m ile loop num ber o ne b y less than a minute. But • he extended his lead and fin ished t he tw o loo p race three m inutes ah ead o f anyone else. When asked what he thought of the co u rse, Brent said " it was ju st fine" b u t pointed out that the whit e ribbon markers used by t h e CVMC was difficult to see at times in the bright sun. It wa s a relatively ea sy course wi th on ly on e somewhat difficult up hill ab out two m iles past the p ara chute that was u sed at the start rather t han t he t raditional sm oke b o mb. The first three bik es to finish were Huskys and four of the first five were 250 s.
