The B LM is a ss u m i ng the ro le of "protecting" the desert users from flash floods . Funt u nately a fter a Sat urday m orning co nference, BLM relent ed on the condition it didn't ra in Saturday night. The weath er fron t cleared and the en duro was on . Absolute ecstasy . . . 600 riders showed up to sam p le the morning's delight and the firs t riders set out at 7:01 a.m, for an enjoyable morning. With no dust it was an outright pleasure riding. T urns we re as if a giant berm was placed fo r ea ch rider, just lean it over and gas it ! The firs t loop it self turned o ut to be' relatively easy and with the added traction most riders had no problem maintaining t h e averages. Speeds ranged from 18 mph to 24 mph , mostly over easy terrain. The second loop start ed out at a brisk 21 mph aver age over the ro cky ridges abundant in the are a, tu rn ed to 24 mph in th e hills an d th e race was o n . CR C', favorite trail was used at th e fa st average and would have caught most rid ers late ex cept t he check crew got lo st an d nev er m ad e it to their c hec k . O h we ll .. . the average unexpectedly turned to 12 mph which
