By t he sec ond lap Tu rn er had captured first and McDougal was hot o n his knobby. Fro m back in the pack Warren Reid (FMF) had app ear ed to co ntest third. Warr en kept on th e gas and crossed t he finish first, foll owed by McDou~l, Mark Tyer (T &M) and Broc Glover (Ya m) . Moto two was another fantastic holeshot for Jim Do mann , Gary Denton - (DG), Bruce McDougal (T&M) and Dave ::; T aylor (Suz) were the followers. r Domann surrendered his lead to T&M : rider Bruce :\IcDougai but after o ne lap _ the positions took a radical tum with _ Tye r taking second and the Flying .0 Machine himse lf pushing hard fo r uno . Bruce and Warren < numero dominated the entire mota. Rei d inched Chis way up to McDougal and finally , in ' the last of what was an except ionally ~ fast race, Reid catapulted past to 7> ca pture the loot. 125 payback went to Reid, McDougal, and Glover. The 500 Pros gained a new r ider today when Fritz Schlegal finished with the Intermediate class . In the last five Sundays, Fritz has won all te n of his races for a very impressive first place record. Welcome to the Pros Fritz , and good lu ck. • Resu lts in Results Se ction . , Rainey/Allison cash in at Corona By Elaine Jones CORONA, CAL., SEPT. 8 Th e funn y weather th at plagued the rest o f Southern California left Corona Raceway untouched and Wednesday could only be called tropical. The big boys were o ut in numb~ and John Allison got the evening started collecting the gold in the money IT. Dylan Neihart, an up and comer, gave John a good run for it but made one mist ak e and that's one to o many when yo u're running against the Poway flash. John also added the Open Expert Half-Mile to his evening's work, but he better keep an eye on little brothers J im and J err as th ey were righ t in there. Jim practically rode double u ntil the last lap whe n his bike seized going into turn th ree. That caused cardiac arres t to set in on the spectators, and Jim , but he man aged to get things u nder control befo re playing hoo k-u p with the wa ll. Dave Johnso n , impro ving every week , was second and Jeff Alliso n t hird. Dave o n ly had o ne Allison to co nt end with in t he Open Expert IT but that was enough, Dave led the first lap then Jeff took over fo r three laps before Dave could find room to get by and go for the win . Mike Moo n held off Lynn George a visitor from Fr emont, California for third. John Allison, riding with a possible broken hand, di dn't have enough to make it in the Half-Mile Mone y as pain took over. Wayne Rainey had his sights sets on the dough and the rac e belonged to him from start to finish, Bob Kyzer in from New Mexico did an outstanding job for his first time on the Corona oval and added some coins to his pockets as he copped second. Stan Kinsey go t Allison at the finish line for third. Rainey socked it to the 250cc Half-Mile Experts as he left Danny Perk ins and Do ro t hy Rowe to battle for second. Dorothy was able to hold Danny back for half the race, but it was the wrong half as Danny was in front when the checkered fell . Dylan Neihart put h is name on the 250cc Expert IT and then ran his string to th ree as he captured both the IT and Half-Mile Open Amateur. Dave Peters, who has really had his name on the first place spot in the half- mile, h ad troubles keepin g t he seat attach ed to his bike instead of th e track and he settled for seco nd. Mark Butler and Shane Racine shared t he 250cc No vice honor s with Mark taking the IT and Shane the Half-M ile. Dal e Whiteman started off fine in the Open Novice IT b ut went downhill from there. He got off first but could only hold it for two laps before eventual winner Roy Po rt er got by.
