Darren Hulbert was the hot mini rider of the evening as he hit for two winning the IT and Half-Mile Division I. Rod, Hassay was the Division II IT winn er with David Nelson and Matt Moon second and third. David took the Division II Half-Mile win from Matt. J eff Moon won the 125cc Amateur IT when his strongest challenger Steve Karsten thought he was running half-mile and missed the turn. Ad d that luck to the fact that John Silva who had a substantial lead killed his engine in tum four coming for the checkered, started pushing it and finally got fire to it just as Jeff came out of fou r but couldn't get it in gear and had to watch him go by for the win . Mini riders Darren Hulbert and Bobby Garabedian match rac ed the 125cc Amateurs on the half-mile and did themselves proud as th ey finished three, four out of the five man 125 cc field, Steve Karsten and Jeff Moon were first and second. CRCMX at Corona By Elaine Jones CORONA, CAL., SEPT . 2 A shirt sleeve night seemed to affect the m o o d of both spectato rs and riders as the f rie n d ly, easy going feeling perm eated everyone . The minis got th e evening st art ed with Bobby Hart giving everybody an education on how to ride m oto cro ss. Bobby won his class and pass ed all th e 100 cc Beginners who started ahead of the minis in th e process. Ernie Townsend was in for second with the squeaker for third spot set tl ed by one point as Alla n Small got th e nod over Chris Gables. The girls were on hand and it was no holds barred when they hit the track. Lori Watson had two wins before Linda McNamara was able to get by her and pick up one for herself. It was close, but Lori came up with th e win by only one point. Terry Apodaca did away with the 100cc Beginners in short order, winning all three motos. Kevin Colwell and J eff Sweet were second and third every Go at Breker, riding for Dallas Baker on a Kawasaki KX250cc, is a rider that all competitors should watch , not only for his ability, which is considerable but for his professionalism. Goat has the Corona course wired as Jim Latendresse found out. Jim has been off for the summer playing with boats and water skiis so it will be very interesting to watch th ese two go at it as Jim's bike legs come back to him. Steve Morefield appeared to have the win in h is hip pocket , with two firsts already to his credit , but the third moto was his undoing as something went very wrong and he ended up fifth, Bill and St eve wer e tied but, because of Bill's higher finish in th e final moto, Steve had to settle for second. Nick Peltzer took the first moto of t he 250cc Novice go but Tom Burneister made sure it didn't happen again as he took the next t wo and the overall win. . Mike Delehant sho wed th e Open Beginners th e way around in the first mo to and then Cliff Mathews sho wed them his line on the tricky co urse the second m oto , Mike proved his way was b etter as h e cam e back to win th e final go. Jeff McKelroy picked up th e secon d w it h his 2-3-2 and Cliff had to settle for the show sp ot. Dorothy Rowe and Lloyd Patzke fou ght it out for first and second but Dorothy led Patzke in for the win and both won reserved seats for the main event. J ack Smith (Bu l) and Yamaha mounted Mike DeBruyn joined Dorothy and Lloyd in the waiting room. The 250 Amateur semi left everyone shaken an d many bruised. First it was T erry Williams who got a taste of the tra ck , th en it was T ony Seagle aboard a Honda that took a turn for t he worse. It seems Tony and Bobbi Hunter had a coming together and Tony ended up with his foot tangl ed up in Bobbi's rear wheel spokes.
