Ho wever the way th ey both shot off the lin e in pursui t of th e fir st wave , led by Bo er and Phil, they b oth meant business! The tr ack was now dry but o nly Ago was brave en ough t o run o n slicks . If previous da ys were to b e any guide a sh ow er wasn't just like ly , but cer t ain, Ago 's guess came up tr umps! It did not rain and he sto rm ed past rivals on hand cut , o r p atterned tires to take th e lead o n the seven th lap posing the fas test lap of the race at 3m 1.9 sec ond s. Un t il th en Read, J ohn Newbold and Kork Ballin gt on h ad been th e p ace makers , but alread y Read an d V an Dulmen h ad sta rted to drop b ack with handling problems caused through the wr ong choice of tires! Both st opped at the end o f th e 15th lap fo r fuel , but th ey were o ff agai n' withou t being ca ught b y the op posi tio n. J amming th e selec tor in third gear, Gary atte m pted t o run th e rest of th e race a t touring pace in a bid to ad d just a few points at least to h is total. But it was not to be . _ Ago, o n th e o th er hand, was cert ain t o gr ab a pl ace in th e t op ten overall th anks to thi s second leg win and it was cr uel luc k th at h is fir st ra ce effo r t h ad bee n spoiled .
