' 1 wo uld like to pass m y feelings on to th e S.R.A. Board of Directors and th e riders who participated in our . ra ces at th e Salt Palace in Salt Lake City , July 30-3 1. This was the first attempt to promote Sp eedway racing in Ut ah and I was a little apprehensive. We spent eight months putting the two day race together and worked with S.R.A . t o sanction the event. I can say, now that th e races are .ov er , that the S.R.A. Administration and riders are a super group to work wi th o They traveled 750 miles to put on a very professional show and represen ted their sport in a very admirable way. TE R RY 1::. I b attle man-eating bugs at nigh t short tracks and wi ther under sco rc h in g ultra-violet rays during day time TT's. I constantly put my life on the lin e trying to get " the shot" that may grace your I wa s very happy to see suc h excelle nt co verage of t he side car record a tternpt in Talladega. I hav e b een racing sid ec ars for seven y ear s and it sure is neat t o see a lo ng o verlo o ked class of raci ng getting o verd ue recognition , There h as b ee n a lot of co n tr over sy about t he sa d state of ro ad racing, The wa y I see it. the inclusion of sidecars in Alit A Nat ion als would put a much needed European tou ch to roadracing . This ap proach' ha s been proven at Laguna Seca th e last fo ur years wher e the Sidecar National Championship has been a bi g success. Promoters ar e star ti ng to realize what"sp ectators hav e known for years, that sidecar roadracing is one of the most exciting and thrilling G. P. classes of racing there is to watch. . T he AMA Natio nal at Riverside October 2-3 will also feature side car race with o utfits from all over the U. S. co m peting. I invite the press and sp ectators to com e an d see a gr o w ing sp o r t t hat is an exciting experience an d needs t he sup port of every roadra cing en thusia st.
