It looked [ike a sure win for Tracy when he got too far sideways coming out of tum four on the last lap and Salyers whipped' under him for a photo fmish win. The run off for first was between Koemans and Martin. These two hadn't faced each other in many weeks and the crowd was up for the race. The first two laps were anybody's guess as Koemans ' got the gate from the pole. But an error that moved him outside in turn two let Martin get under and Max never got by. Short trackin ' at Pioneer By Ann Carr OAKDALE, CAL., AUG. 21 Pioneer's short track was almost too good this evening as a smooth ' course greeted 164 racers. Craig (don't call me Wyatt) Scroggins returned from the pro wars to take the 360 Expert first over weekly ace Carl Yerby. Craig survived a shaky heat where he got used to Dennis Huff's Bul and went on to a convincing win. Carl gained a firm hold on high point honors with the second. Meanwhile Dave Faria also gained some breathing room in the 250 Expert ranks where he and Kim Jorgensen battled with -Dave winning. These two sported a straightaway lead over third place finisher Dennis Huff. Other riders celebrated back-to-back wins as 80 Novice Austin Pugh beat out Robin Mast, Scott Nugent, again won the large 80 Junior, Scott Baker continued to win the 100 Novice. Manteca's 'T erry Spurgeon won his second consecutive 125 Novice, Dean Coca his second 200 Novice, Dwayne Ellis his fourth straight 250 Junior, and Dave Busby followed his Friday night scrambles victory with a 360 Junior first, Mini Expert getoffs juggled both the 80 and 100 class. In the 80 Tracy Hayes took a hard spill in the No. 4 tum, causing a restart and putting him out of contention. Doug Chandler was in his usual spot up front taking his fifth consecutive win in this class. Pebble Beach man Jim Cunningham captured his first Oakdale win in the 100 race as he beat out Chandler in the heat and Doug's bike failed in the Main. Hubbard, charging hard, grabbed second in the first lap while Moural, not to be denied, too k over third. From then on it was a three-way battle between Sauer, Hubbard and Moural for first. Although their positions were never secure, no changes were made. Another tight fight developed in the 200 Novice event between tliree Buls, Grabbing the Jead on the start was Tom Gutzman. Larry Weik and Doug Reswig moved into second and third respectively. That's how they went to the checkered flag with barely a bike length separating them. Dick Hiatt held off a challenge by John Guy to lead the 360cc Novice contest past the checkered. • Results in Results Section. Lodi TT finale By Ann Carr r.onr, CAL., AUG. 20 The Lodi Cycle Bowl concluded its 'TT scrambles season tonight with 142 relaxed racers attending. Top men collected their high point brass at intermission and a swift program with lots of laps provided good racing. Some new faces entered the winner's circle as 'Austin Pugh won his first IT in the 80 Novice ranks over hard charging Aaron Hill. Meanwhile Mark Key, a fast-rising Junior, returned with a win over new Junior Joe Knight. Mark reportedly is a rough track specialist. Tracy Hayes c elebrated his high point award by topping both the 80 and 100 Expert events. While his 80 race was contested hotly with Bill Arbogast chasing most of the Main and nipping Cory Cantaloupi for second. Tracy held
