Lawrence crashes to CRC win By Laszlo VALENCIA, CAL., AUG . 15 The crowd went crazy and the announcer got hoarse ; that's how exciting Crown Cycles' "Mad Mark" Lawrence's first moto come from behind victory was. Mark crashed not once, but twice, and still worked his way through the entire field to take the lead with three laps remaining. Early leader Tom Ryan was forced to give up, moments after Lawrence wooshed by, due to a broken pipe. Monoshocked rider Gary Scheidler finished behind Lawrence in both motos and in the overall standings. Honda mounted Bill Fancher was 3·3 for third overall. 125 Novice Scott Boek could only win the two motos in which he started out on top. That still wasn't good enough for the overall. A second moto, which could be conservatively be described , as "disasterous", enabled a more consistant Bob Vasichek to take the overall win. Mark Casper wound up with second overall while Scott managed third. KTM mounted Tom Malone won two of his three motos and still failed to take the overall. That happened in the 250 Novice where Chu ck Rubin won it all with a pair of sec onds and a third. • Results in Results Section. 200 jam ' with RA.C.E. He won the first two motos with ease, but in the third moto he did "one hell of an endo" over the new berm in front of the staging area, got back on, shaken but still in o n e piece, and finished the race.
