an d Chuck Pettigrew of 0 -37 were
equally dominate in their respective
classes.
S teams exploded out of the gate in
the first moto and pulled into a
commanding lead while Jeff Mathews
(Kaw) extended his hold on second.
Mike Mcgowen grabbed third as he
charged from a dead last start.
Joe Holt scored the holeshot in the
first moto of the screamer division but
Rodney Brand (Hon) wasn't content to
remain in third, and powered his Honda
in to the lead on the long Car lsbad
uphilL Butch Darling (Ho n ) was also on
the move, dispatching George Speck for
fourth, zapping Holt for third, and
fo und himself in second o n lap five.
Greg Meyers (Hon) closed on Holt at
the half-way point, then passed Darling
fo r second a few laps from the flag . At
the finish it was Brand, Meyers, Darling
and Holt.
Chuck Pettigrew put his Wheelsmith
Maico out in front of the firs t Open
moto . Ken Frost (Suz), Rob Norgaard
(CZ), an d Mik e Mcgowen (Hus ) gave
chase. Norgaard nailed Frost for second
on lap one , but bobbled on lap three
allowing Fro st and Mcgowen to slip by.
Mcgowen really pressu red Frost, who
responded by crashing as he exited the
tum at the top of the uphill. Pettigrew
we nt on to win, Mcgowen was second
an d Lars Larsen brought his KTM in fo r
third.
Steams holeshot the second 25 0

excitement as Ken Frost (wi th a new set

breathed down his neck. After playing
freight train for three laps, Mcgowen
went berserk as he passed Frost for the
lead on the uphill in a series of tank
slappers. Pettigrew eventually passed the
squirelly Husky rider for good and
pulled away. Mcgowen slo wed to a sane
pace, after almost killing himself, and
rode in for another second. Ken Frost
rode a methodical race fo r a solid third.

Bob Bram mer, after . clinching a

with him.
Bob blew away the entire field in the

n
man aged to stay within a few seconds of
Brammer u n t il late in the race. Bob

because he backed completely off the

Gary came bursting over the line WFO ,
inches ahead of a surprised Bramm er.
They finished in that order in the
