H By Ju dy Kinnaman LUCERNE, CAL., AUG . 22 The road to th e Desert Daisy's D-37 Hare Scrambles was marked with some very interesting signs; Please Don't ' Eat the Daisy's for one example. A lot of riders were looking forward to this race and the rumors of what they could expect caused a flurry at sign-up, The eight o'clock start was marred by an unfortunate misunderstanding. The banner appeared to be up from a certain angle on the start line, but due to a perception problem, it was difficult to see it was not unfurled. This resulted in a premature start for abou t fifteen of the racers. The rest of the line rem ain ed , however, and after a delay of abou t 20 min u tes the race was on. The eager racers surged ahead, each one in ten t on being the first to catch a glimpse of the much talked-about nude check; All of those persistent riders who made it to the first were not disappointed - the reality exceed many expectations, and a few careless riders wandered off the trail a bit, Others managed to keep their minds on the race. Brent Wallingsford (HUSl finished the race'Ilrst (in the 8 ;20 start overall and first 250. Tom Schell (Suz followed as second 250 with Gary Conner (Yam ) third.
