Alex George on the lIermatite Suzuki led the field away from the grid, but the judges decided he h ad jumped the flag, and he was p en alized one minu te, effec tively pu tting him o u t o f any championship points. A t the end of th e first lap New Zealander Stu Avant, m aking his debut at th e Swedish circu it, and delighted to be on th e fro n t row of th e grid for the first tim e in hi s European tour , was ahead. He stayed there, too, for seven laps, till Lansivuori, who like Sheene had made .a - poor s tar t, took over. Sh eene was 14th a t the end of the first lap, but he knew his capabilities and by the seven th lap was hard on the heels of Lansivuori who looked like ly to be his greatest threat. . And so T eppi was . The Finn held off Barry's efforts for 22 laps till the British .boy swept through, and shortly after the Suzuki seemed to be giving troubles and Lansivuori slowed dramatically. After the race it was learned that the swinging arm spindle h ad worked loose! For a while it seemed as if he migh t hold second place, bu t o n the back straight both Jack Findlay and Ch as Mortimer went ahead. Findlay 's effort c aught Mortimer . a little on the hop, but Ch as, unlike Jack, had raced in the 25 0cc race, too, and hi s • 56 lap s of racing left him too tired to find an an swer to the Australian. But Stu was ca ug h t later by Mortimer and Findlay , after he had again felt " un wel l, and twice vomited into hi s visor! But Stu held on to fifth place to improve his championship position.
