and move up despite having killed the engine twice. Kent took fifth from Stacen on the rough and last downhill . whoops with a keep the throttle on charge. Shortly after Howerton's move Stackable outdueled Eierstedt for third and set sights on Pierre who had a pretty good lead in second. DiStefano 's good luck failed him with less than two laps to go as he bit the dirt halfway up the appropriately named "Screw U, " a sheer drop downhill combined with an immediate steep uphill. Karsmakers, Stackable, Eierstedt and Howerton flew by as Tony struggled first to start his bike and then to get up the steep incline from his halfway position. The excitement started as the race changed complexion with Stack probing Pierre for a weak spot and Pierre shutting the door on his charges, one after another. Into the valley and speeding along the whoop-de power straight Pierre pulled out a 100 foot lead before the duo dissappeared into the tree obscured twisties. Pierre still held the lea d as the apir emerged with Stack closing. It was Stackable alone cresting the uphill from the valley with Pierre crashing at the bottom, but quickly back in second. Eierstedt ran third and then Tony fourth when Howerton's Husky picked a very inopportune moment to throw its chain. Terry Clark and Chuck Sun followed a ways back to the checkers. MotoTwo ng 500cc National moto takes to the Unadilla Sportscenter track. Stackable took II with Wayne Boyer (32) in ninth. ' class acti o n Frank Stacy put his Penton East sponsored Penton in to the top spot on the tally sheets with a perfect I -I score to take the overall win followed by the Maico's of Barry Higgins, 2-3 , and Ed Moor, 4-4. Rain, wind, clouds and a general will it rain or won't it atmosphere clouded race day after an all night downpour which turned th e nation's premier motocross circuit (to a majority of riders) into two undulating miles of slippery and tri cky track . The naturalness and length of the Unadilla Valley Sportcenter co mb ine to make the track a first rate test of rider skill and stamina a s well as machine reliability and power. "The length of the track makes it easier to score since you don't run as many laps and therefore don't end up riding with the lapped riders as much. It's a demanding course."
