The last half of that 750 Pro Main saw Sonny Burres in the n umber one spot being crowded continually by Gary Davis. Davis was worried about being run ba ck to third by a charging Billy Oliver. Hubbard wins Cycleland Semi Pro Series By Patty Piston CHICO, CAL.,J UNE 26 J im Hubbard, of Chico, walked away with th e top m oney in the Semi Pro Series. On the first lap Ray Hubbard and Cliff Hylton fell in the firs t tum wh ile Bob Grant and Ken Gr ay went down on the back straight. Chris Sauer go t the holeshot on the restart. It was a battle to the fini sh as Dick Turner, Cliff Hy lton, St eve Dietz, and Jim Hubbard were all in there figh ting for the lead. Sauer held on and led the way past th e checkered flag. Under constant pressure from se cond place rider Dan Benson for the full eigh t laps in the l25cc Junior event was Pete Up ton . Upton hung on and won by half a bike length. Lester Norton app eared to have the 360cc Junior race in the bag bu t he was . . forced to pull out in the seventh lap. This put Mon ty Heath in th e lead with ' Dic k Hiatt finishing a not too distant second. Re cently turned Expert Danny Fowler won the 200cc Handicap. Hank Scott Charged Back Into Winner's Circle ~ From the winner's circle at the Oklahoma AMA Nationa l, Hank and the Shell Thuet prepared 750 Yamahas moved on to Louisville, Kentucky. Overcoming a bad start, Hank came from the back to finish a fast closing third. The following day he won the Kentucky Motorcycle Derby at Louisville Downs and broke the 25 second barrier with a fantastic 23.934 lap. Hank's Yamaha also broke a 10 year hold on this tra ck by Harley-Davidson.
