Duane Feland (250 Suz) mounted his Suzuki, with heat treated handlebars, and rode into fo urth Amateur . Art Webster (Yam 250) broke Manfred Lauxen's winning streak today by matching Manfred with 33 poin ts. The tie -breaker went to Webster. J erry Manley (Yam 250) rode well and took third . Manfred and Marland were spied eating humongous amounts of wa termelon after t he trial, could it be part o f the trick? . Marty 'St ab ile (Yam 250) styled to a Novice win with an almost flawless ride. Moto-journalist , Len Weed rode his Bultaco to a second, eight points behind Marty . Marland E. Whaley Sr ., yeah, Marlands' dad, on a 184 Honda rode to a smooth third place n ovice. . Cooler weather and an ea rlier starting time allowed I.T.A. to create a longer trial. Mike Bell and David Taylor , will co mpete in the 250 Pro Novice class at the motocross classic an d the night rac e at Ascot may h elp them. Dave Taylor (DG) grabbed that lea d with Ascot's fastest, Dave Carl son (FMF) hot-on-his-heels. With no passing room, Taylor wo n the m o t o with a substantial lea d an d Carls on second. Moto t wo was a different sto ry . Taylor led the race for six laps bu t blew the transmission in h is ul tra trick DG equippe d Yamaha. This left Carlson all alone in the lead. Carlson won th at At Ascot MX, Mike Bell (6) and his 440 Honda outlasted the three 450 Maicos of Val Tam ietti (3), Bill Rubly (11 and Luke Messer (19 ) to win the Open Pros.
