AT SAN "OSE BV Lane Campbell SAN JOSE, CAL. ,JULY 10 San J ose' s first night National fell to Kenny Roberts (Yam) after a classic Sc ott-Roberts duel that left Kenny savoring his second 1976 Camel Pro Series win , Gary Scott on top of th e firs t leg points payoff, and Jay Springsteen picking himself ou t of a haybale to salvage a points ti e with Roberts for second. Mike Kidd, af ter the early scuffle, had ridden h is Harley all by him self in third, . ahe ad of surprising Californian Paul Bostrom, who had in tum placed his Harley ahead of all the factory tern riders. The San Jose track had worked its usual magnetism, drawing a field of over 70 Experts (up from previous Nationals) in addition to the Juniors on hand for their invitational race. Privateer Triumphs awash in a sea of Harleys: John Gennai had Jack Hatdey's old bike, prep,ped by Eddie Mulder; "Underdog' Ridgeway had the Kennedy bike ready for another go ; the Roberts heads Scott off !It the pass. Northwesterner Charlie Brown, spectacular in time trials Ted Boody (84) rides the groove-edge to shake traffic and win the Trophy Race over Bob Sanders (5), Sonny Burres (69). Gary Tonda (7) and a host of extras who were elsewhere at the moment. 8
