Honda takes first and second
..
at Keysers Ridge 12See National.
In front of 7,000 spirited Fourth of July spectators ,
the Honda Elsinores w of Steve Wise and Marty
Smith dominated the Keysers Ridge , Maryland
125 National . :
Moto one belonged to Marty Smith as
he and his factory RC-125 put the
red, white and blue Honda racing
colors out in front to stay. Steve
Wise followed Super Smith
home on his modified
production CR-125
Elsinore, setting up the
first of a double Honda
sweep of the event.
The second 40minute moto saw Wise
grab the lead right off the
starting line and never look back. Smith, who got
an unexpected poor start, battled fiercely through'
the pack from thirteenth place. By the eighth
lap, Marty had cut his deficit down to 25 .
seconds. Flying past competitors at a blistering pace on
the hard, dry track, Marty worked his way up to second
before the drop of the checkered flag caught
him just a whee l short of another victory.
Steve Wise took that final moto and
the overall victory. Marty amazed.those
who had never had the chance to see
him and his Honda do their
particular magic before, as he
took second overall behind
. Wise, strengthening his
position as he battles to retain
his AMA #1 plate.
With both a production
machine and a factory bike in
the winners' circle at the
Keysers Ridge 125 National, it's easy to
see why the Elsinore is the winningest 125
in professional AMA motocross history. See the
