Newcastle Enduro By Team T urtle ~EWCASTLE, WYO. , J UNE 2 7 The eight annual Newcastle Enduro was won by Yamaha ISDT Team member, J ohn Fero with a score of th ree po ints lost. J ohn, wh o said: u l screwed-up ," wa s riding a slightly tricked-out 400 Yamaha. Second overall and winner of the 125 class was Ste p he n Mat t iesen wi th a score of four. Near ly 20 0 ri de rs from the surro un ding state s and as far away as the Province of Ontario entered and star ted off at t wo on t he minu te at 9 :01 in the morning. The co ur se, set east of Newcastle in the Black Hill s Nat io na l Fo rest, was 85 miles of trails, fire ro ad s and short stretches o f graveled roads . There were seve n checks an d sp eed averages of 18, 21 , an d 24 m iles p er hour. The main featur e of the co urse was d own ed ti mber.
