NEWBURY, BERKS., ENGLAND,
JUNE 20
Russian ace Gunnadey Moisseev
on the factory KTM notched up
two impressive wins at the 250cc
British Mot o Cross to narrow the
gap between himself and present
championship ' leader
Heikki
Mikkola to just one win, six
victories to five!
Mikkola had a terrible day , retiring in
both races after falls and fro nt brake
problems, and the only man who loo ked
capable of inflicting a defeat on the
flying Russian was Am erican Jim
Pomeroy.
Big Jim was battling with Moisseev in
the first leg, when he crashed heavily
trying to take the lead. He remounted
and finall y finished fifth, but a shoulder
injury put him out of the second leg
after just a lap.
Harry Everts, the Belgian who had
been struggling to find form in the early
rounds of this year 's championship
clicked in to top ge ar , and followed
Moisseev, a t a respectable distance,
home in both legs.

tight and twisty circuit had plenty to

year old Neil Hudson grabbing third
place.

championship points for his efforts
though. He had ridden in 125cc GP
already this year, so all he went home
with was the cash!

run in a steady rain, but the long weeks
of a rare British summer drough had
kept the gro und rock ' hard , and with
Sunday morning turning fine and warm,
the circuit rapidly dried out, af ter the
early morning timed practice .
The Russian Vladimir Kavinov was
quickest, with two English youngsters
Rob Hooper and Neil Hudson also
quick. But its the racing that scores
points.
Pomeroy was a lucky man in that he
had .t he chance to view the track earlier
in the week, and he's "tunet!" his
