Coquille 's Terry Phillips has his own unique sty le that gets h im wh ere he 's going in a hurry. He took home trophies in th e 125 TD and A Main and th e 250 A Main . Two Californian ri ders, Ray Duggan and Cecil Arispe, were evenly matched in t he 250 A Main and while t he y were havin ' it out -for second place, Sam Armfield romped to a firs t. Duggan and Airspe covered the cou rse wheel to wheel for all but one-half lap. Arispe downed it one the inside right-hander and Duggan went on to a second. Duggan stayed close to Frank Word for the first couple laps of the Money Race but gradually fell behind the powerful Triumph. It was almost in the bag but in the sweeper, Word lost his concen tration (and his traction) and en ded up in the boonies! That left Duggan, Dana Hansen, Rich Word and Dennis Fitze to share the winnings. Have a feeling Frank will not hear the end of that one for awhile. • Results in Results Section. Kim's win ab oar d the J orgy Can Am was relatively easy as he moved away from a hard battle for second between last year 's high point man St eve Brandt , Jeff Eide, and Alex Jorgensen. Brandt held a tigh t lin e for the duration for the runnerup spot wh ile Eide never relinquished th ird. Later in t he evenin g yo ung Spence aced out father Du ane fo r th e 500 Expert victory and seven points to tie Jorgensen. Dennis scooted by his dad abo u t lap two and then proceeded to move out. In the mini ranks Stockton 's Tracy Hays, riding a McGill's special Yamaha, won the 80 Expert Main over the Kiser Brothers' Honda rid de n by Fre d Merkel. These two also staged a fantastic heat and the main in the 100 class with Merkel coming out on top in that one. Jerry" Kennedy of Union City moved into the Junior ranks with one last 360 Novice win, while TIm Hlebo captured the 500 class the first time out. • Results in Results Section. Speedway Central HANFORD, CAL. , JUNE 11 100 degree in the shade gave some real " live San Joaquin Valley su mmer weather to Hanford riders and fans for Friday's regular Spe edway meeting. The handicap sh ow was spiced with plenty of passing as long yardage men battled for transfer spots.
