Pat lost her brakes. going down in the process. and was unable to make up los t time. Carla also lost her front brake and saw J o ann lItiley and Cherry Stockton work themselves into th ird an d fourth positions. A pro test w as filed by Pat J acques on Sue Fish 's I 75 m onosho ck. T his caused a small am ount o f con troversy. Su e 's Crown Cycle monosh ock was impo un ded and tom apa rt. For an event as impor tan t as this to Sue. she wouldn't t ake a chance on running an illegal b ike. And for Pat to drive 3. 000 mile s for a race. she too didn't want to take any chances. The bike was declared legal by Butch Lee. the District 3 8 Motocross Referee . Pat explained. " It wasn 't Sue I was protesting. I had to get everyone's atten tion to pain t au t th at the rules should not allow a 17 5 to co mp e te with 250s on a ti ght co urse." Debbie Evans, Southern California 's wonder' woman, ex hibi te d her talents by performing her balancin g rou tine. which consist of Debbie standin g o n her he ad (without t he kickstand) o n her trials bike . The program co ncl u ded wi th th e of man y co ntingency distribu tion donations. The three m ajor donat ors were U.S. Su zuki. Mikuni an d Elect ro Helmets. Kathy Brobe ck was awarded the Nation al Intermediate Ch ampion title . re ceiving lots of glory. prizes an d a T M 75 Suzuki. fro m the co mp any of the sam e name. Sue Fish was crown ed Grand Natio nal Champ. rec eiving a kiss fr o m BiIIy Gray. actor and speedway star, lots of money. lots of prizes, a RM 125 Suzuki and much glory. It 's hard to narrow it down. Each participant worked hard. Hopefully each girl should re ceive so m e special recogni tion, Sue Fish has earned the respect of her female riders and the self satisfaction of holding the Grand National Champion title. Terry Kezar. the 19 75 Grand National Champion. was not present to defend her title. She currently has a contract with a promoter in Arizona jumping cars.
