Must adm it, there were doubts. It poured th at afternoon but the half-mile dirt track at the Douglas County Fairgrounds takes a whole lotta' water. Super-duper grader operator and also CCR's official sanctioned AMA starter, Rusty Niel sen, did a great job of grading that track into usable condition and a few riders started t ric kling in, most with the attitude " Well, we had a nice drive !" It rained. then quit, the track drug, enough riders showed up t o make some clas ses and away we went. Course it sprinkled a co u ple times and the racing was topped twice but all " Mains were finally co mp le ted. Fo urteen year old Oiff Allen, who 's been riding the 100 kids class and is barely tall enough to handle a 100cc, made one lap on his 100cc and blew and engine. Ole ' Dad was boiling mad, said that's the last time - too m an y engine repairs on th e (censored) 100 and he confiscated someone's 250. Cliff loo ked right at home on the bigger bike altho' he had to use tippy-toes to hold it on the line. He won the C Main, not bad for the first time. Another former 100 rider, 15 year old Scott Miller, was riding a 360 Bu l (bet it 's in preparation for turning 16 an d Pro) . Over 300 riders were on hand tonight to do battle on a track that had a few new course ch an ges and a well watered surface. But with so many riders, problems developed concerning practice and the time it takes to race 300 riders in one night. Talk of limiting entries for future races is being considered by the promoters so riders are forewarned abo u t getting entries in advan ce, Brian Jodry m ade the long h aul down from the Sacramento are a to try out the new track on his Su zuki, he seemed to like it rather well as he won both 250 Pro motos handily . Ron Self blasted out to an early lead . in moto one, but lost hiS chain. Wayne Morrell (Hus) was there to take over. Working his way up from a poor start , Brian Jodry, as the last lap came out, started to charge on Merrett.
