over a giant berm at the end of the
straight. J odry was shaken but unhurt,
his bike too was shaken bu t th e triples
clamps were mangled. He was able to
get some new ones set up be fore the
start of the next moto. J odry . didn't
waste any time in the second moto as he
rocketed away.
After ab out five restarts and one
disqualification the 125 Pros fmally
were able to get off the line with
long-time night racer Tom Rapp (KTM )
out front looking like he knew what he
was doing. Following Rapp and having it
out at the same time were Kent Classen
and Mike Hersman both on Hondas.
Rapp held on to his short lead to the
fmish with Classen beating out Hersman
for second.
Second moto, Dan Geery again pulled
one of his famous ho le shots and left
the rest of the 125 riders behind. It
didn't last long and Dan was passed by
Kent Classen and Troy Deherrera
(Yam). Tom Rapp was stuck back in
fifth and couldn't seem to get going.
Ken t Classen was able to hold 0 ff the
advances of Deherrera and hold down
first to the flag, with Deherrera ' aki ng
second overall. Tom Rapp picked up
third for his efforts.

Fremont Night MX
By Steve Castillo
FREMONT, CAL., JUNE 10
Norcal Motocross held its first
motocross under lights tonight at
Fremont Raceway. The organizers
had several new lights put in at the
Fremont facility , but many riders still
had trouble adapting to the night racing
and man y were seen embracing Mother
Earth m ore than once.
Ron Self now riding a Moto-Villa had
lit tle trouble with the n ight visibility .
Self, a veteran of many night races in
Southern California, jumped out fr ont at
the start of the firs t 250 Pro m o to ,
followed by Jerry Castillo (Mon) and
Chr is Grewer (Hus). Self stretched out
his lead while Grewer applied the
pressure. Grewer banged into Castillo in
. a tight turn and Castillo went down.
Coming u~ now in third place was Mike
Hersman (Hus) .
Dan Geery (Hon) pulled the holeshot
in m ot o two but Geery 's luck wasn't
what you would call good tonight. After
one lap Dan lost con tr ol in one of the
short dr op-offs. Getting off in fr ont of a
pack of m on ey hungry 250 Pro s isn 't
the safest place to be, bu t luckily Geery
wasn 't seriously injured.
,
Coming up from a p oor start this
time was Ron Self who looked lik e he
wou ld not settled for anything less than
a first. Self charged all the way past
Grewer after a brief scu ffle with the
Oakland Husky rider. Grewer picked up
sec on d mon ey to Self. Mike Hersman
wound up in third at th e pay window.
Dic k Mann pulled the pl ug on the rest
of th e 500 Pros an d roc keted away with
Bruce Han lon (Bul) preyin g on Mann's
rear wheel. Hanlon forced himself past
Man n in a bold pass. Aft er that, coming
down a short straight, Mann tr ied to
dive under Han lon but the gamble
p roved too big and Dick went do....m but
remounted and rejoined th e fray.
As Hanlon came onto the straight in
front of the grandstands he somehow
got out of shape. With a cloud of dust
and a Bultaco that soared at least 20
fee t in the air Hanlon did an endo to
end all en does. The crowd let out a gasp
as Hanlon's Bultaco was thrown some
50 y ar ds down the track. Hanlon came
out of the incident with a broken
collarb on e; some people said he was
lucky just to have done that little
damage. Pat Brown fin ish ed out the race
' th e winner. Gary Murphy now riding a
Suzuki for Lofano and Sons picked up
second.
Pat Brown was the man out of the
hole first in the second ro und. Murphy
was charging hard in second place with
John Gennai (Bul) and Dick Mann
running third and fourth respectively.
Man n got by Gennai an d set ou t after
Murphy who in ' tu rn was pu t tin g the
pressure on Pat Brown. Brown just held
the same steady speed through out the
race , ahead of Murp hy, wh ile Dick
Mann picked up a strong third, and
