Bro t he r J eff kept a consisten t pace thro ug hout the race , landing him sel f with thir d pl acing earnings wi th a 3-3 score be hin d Maxwell. DG Yamah a m ounted Mike Tripes won the race to see who co ul d flick his right wri st the quickest, wh ich resulted in a natural MX ac t known as "The Hole shot ;" Tripes paced th e early 250 Pro go ings on , holding down Eierstedt, Terry Turner (Mai) , and John Smith (Suz ). Rich Eierstedt soon found a w ay ar ound the yo unger brother to the one time famed " Sup erBo wl" great Marty Tripes, and steadily sped aw ay from the p ack. Meanwhile , John Smith had gotten around Turner an d was off and running in his berserko style- to catc h Tripes. Smith 's charge came to an abru p t halt, as his ' RM shocks froze up, cau sing him to stray towards the fen ce; the fence was merciless and wrestled the pair to the ground. Smith got up, unshaken by the affair and co n t in ued on his way . Smith later pitted, never to be seen for the remainder of the da y. Val Tamietti moved up from a mediocre drag ra ce and landed himself in third by th e fourth lap, but a su sp ec ted fouled plus gummed up his ch anc es to do well for the day. " I' m go nna go to the beach and just sit in the wa ter for an hour . . . n And there was a good reason, too. The temperature climbed over the 100 degree mark when the 125s fin ally got off the line . Tony Wanket (FM F) has recorded an almost countless number of "holeshots " at Carlsbad, but these next two only added to the gigantic pile. While Wanket led teammate Alan Smith , ' Andy Baines (Hon), and Gary To ml in (who earlier led the moto before a restart was called), brother Peter Wanket (Hon) and Ted Weeks (FM F) kept an exciting dice going until Weeks locked up his barrel. Smith soon began to take opposing lines to Wanket and got around him and into the lead. Wanket got wrapped up in some banners and had to tone down the pace a few seconds. Tony Wanket handled the start as usual in the final moto, but this time giving Smith a run for the money. Tony was pumped up for this one, but Smith had the edge in experience and slipped by for the win . Peter Wanket held back John McGonigal (FMF) for third. Gary Genegel rode an in conspicuous No . "X" Honda in for fourth spot. • Results in Results Section. Lightweight Me host Elsinore TT Scrambles . By Maureen Lee Memo To.. ALL PROFESSIONAL RACERS From..
