These two teams were so well-matched neither could get a point up on the other for the first four eve nts. They split each race three points even. Ventura took over by two points in the fifth race only to have the Bandits tie it back up in the sixth. Again the Sharks by two in the seve nth and then in the eighth the Bandits got the first of two clean sweeps. Events eight and nine ended up tieing the score again . When you put the Number One Speedway .team up against a team that is tied for last place, a team that was beaten the nigh t before by 30 points, you don't expect much of a show. But the Bakersfield Ban di ts, Number One in the League, came down' to meet the Orange Co unty Eagles in the season's closest meet. The Bandits got right on the scoreboard in the first event with a clean sweep . But that was to b e the biggest p oint spread all n ight, as th e le ad droppe d to t wo p oints u ntil even t seven, whe n t he score got tie d up 21 all. The Bandits aga in took a two-point lead an d kept it th rough to Event 12. League rules say there can be no tie in team racing, so any rider who has not had five rides that night goes into the tie -breaker, but only one m an per team. This task fell on Team .
