Just two weeks ago the Ventura Sh arks were in last place. Sin ce then, they have not los t a race meet at home or away . tonight it was the San Bernardino Sizzlers suffering the loss. Suffering could cover th eir whole problem at the presen t. Their te am cap t ain, Larry Shaw , is out with a broken tailbo ne , Billy Meister has been o ut for weeks with a broken leg and Dennis Sigalos has been sidelined with an eye in fection . They have put in repl acem en t riders; but it takes so me t ime t o jell, riding wi th a te am mate and not jus t for yourself. Rod Sext o n is the newest rider to co me o n th e Siz zlers team and the eigh t poin ts that he added to th eir sco re wa s o n ly topped by Mar k Ch erry with 13 and Jim Fish bac k wi th 12 . The ho me team Jed all the way. There were tw o clean seeeps, one eac h. Danny Becker was high poin t rid er fo r the Sha rks with II points, Bobby Schwartz got te n . Final score was 43-35. Dave Si ms, t hird high man for the Sharks, moved on into the First Division Handicap , going all the way for the win in the Handicap Main . Home town fo lks ca me out to see the Sizz lers ca tc h it again from the L.A, Sprockets - as Mike Bast an d co m pany put anothe r st ranglehold on Berdoo, As co uld be expect ed, Bast an d Penhall we re the high point leaders for L.A. with Mike scoring fo u r wins and Bru ce th ree. Steve Columbo provided a p leasan t surprise as he stuffed in a co uple of wins himself. On the flip side, Sizzler high pointer J im Fishbac k just couldn't get it to gether as he cou ld only pull one win and a st ring of seco nds the rest of the night. Dean Forman just couldn 't get mean enough either, and Mark Cherry was in consistent. Penahll blast ed t o a win for L.A. in the final while Fishback gained some measure of pride by placing second over Mike Bast. Nevertheless , an y pride that Berdoo had went down the drain with the final score, 42-36. If it was any co nso la tion to Ber doo fans, L.A. riders were blown away in the Handi cap heats. Bast never made it out of his own heat, and Penhall go t as far as the co nso la tion . Ro b Mo rri son made it to the Main, but never placed in the mo n ey. Stu Egli was the one to win it, as he held off so me heavy dut y hot shoes, including gasp! J im Fish back! By Rex Reese f Irwindale, California June 10, 1976 The Sprocke ts kept on ro llin g as they plucked th e Eag les clean, their mos t embarrassin g defeat yet. Bruce Penhall an d Norm Denny perfo rmed in th e first of eig ht sweeps by L A . If O .C. p ro moter Harry Oxley had any n o t ion ab o ut ho w things would t urn out, he probab ly wo u ld've co ncede d defeat after th e first ro und. Sim ply put, tonigh t was a lost cause fo r the Eagles.
