The second moto saw a 'p ile up that finalized itself after two laps with Pat Richter leading never to be passed. Pat Richter won the most money and Jerry Shore was the "best loser," but as the sun faded. Jerry could be heard yelling " The South will rise again!" • Robinson splitswith Gennai By W. H. Spencer SAN JOSE, CAL., MAY 20 Dennis Robinson took the Scratch Main and a bunch . more points toward the Americari Qualifier. John G ennai came off the 10 yard line to capture the other Main half of the show with teammate Nick Nazzisi taking ho nor and sharing kisses in the infield after winning the Trophy Main . The first race of the night was marred in injury to Matt Jackson who suffered a broken arm when he fell down the back straight. Paul Orlandi was forced to lay his machine do....-n and in doing so hit Matt. Matt will be out of ac t io n for abo u t three months. Yardage really made a big difference on this big track. Gennai graduated to the 10 yard line after winning his heat as will Duane Yarrow after his heat win. Ken Eggers was the only deep yardage man to take a win in the third heat. lIe also captured the semi and was in a ti gh t third when he lost traction on lap three of the Main. Jerry Bowers looped it one more time doing his famous, fmish for the n ight 360. • BOSS MX at Marysville By Sallee Hilton MARYSVILLE, CAL., MAY 22 A 125 Pro smoker for the North, Jack Keese bounds off a' sandy Spillway berm. Ted "Rocket" Rogers put his Husky out front for the Open Ex pert moto one holeshot stretching a slight lead over second runner Doug Hart (Bul). By the end of . . the second lap. Dan Waller (Suz) had taken over second and spent the next seven laps chasing Rogers. A last minute burst of speed in the last quarter of the last lap made the necessary difference, and just feet before the checkered flag . Waller slipped by to win. Hart had slipped back to fourth , looking tired, or with a sickly engine, and Danny Mancino (Hus) took third. In the second moto the Rocket again came off the line first with Hart right behind him. Hart, however, did not finish the first lap and Mancino was in second at the last ch ec k station with Waller running third As Rogers was pulling away from Mancino, Waller was pulling up on him and did manage to take over second. At the halfway point Wall.er took over the lead and ran away with it. In the white flag tap , Rogers dropped to third as Mancino squeezed by. With Waller getting the overall win, Mancino's three and two finishes gave him second money over Rogers' two and three. • ~ioneer closes ' spring scrambles By Ann Carr OAKDALE. CAL.. MAY 23 One hundred thirty ' scramblers took their last shots at the Pioneer TT course today as Jerry Griffith again . fought wind and dryness. The track was much smoother' this time but traction was marginal because of weather co nd iti o ns. Martinez 125 Expert Dallas Davis gave local hotshoe Mitch Davidson his best challenge to date but fell short in the Main. Davis worked his way through traffic after a slow start but couldn't operate on Mit ch's Blendzall Special in time in the 12 lap feature. Joe Hamilton of Ceres drug out his 175 Yamaha and was moved "into the 250 Junior class as no 175 Juniors showed. Hamilton responded with a wire to wire victory over Steve Nicholas' Jorgy Can-Am. Open Expert Phil Vitalie aboard Jim Crenshaw's old Norton smoked the troops in his Main. Pro racer Terry Sage got a poor start and was not able to move up as did heat winner Steve Hall.
