After changing the lead and a lot of zigzaging reco veries, feet-up in the comers, by McGowen, Mike Tripes finally broke clear and went on to the win with McGowen finish ing second and Mar ty moving up to th ird. The results were Mike Tripes first (2-1), Marty Tripes se co nd ( 1-3) and Mike McGowen third (3-2) . More bike breaking over the "whoops " t o o k place in the 500 Pro class. Rob Norgaa rd won the first mota but fini shed on a bro ken rear sh ock and was unable to find a replacement in time for the fin al mo ta . T he win went to john Cardoza (Su z) over runnerup Ken Frost (Su z). First time a t South Bay for Cardoz , he fail ed to pick u p his $32 CI\IC payback mo ne y for the 500 Pro class . Sure fire ins piration for fo ur divisions of 125 juniors on their way u p , is the extraordinary j ohn Tessitore (Han) . Wit h a ha lf-m ile lead , he starte d lap p ing the rider s on t he one-m ile co urse before t he end of his second six- lap mota win ( 1. 1). • Results in Results Section. One of the h ottest races of the evening was the 250 junior class. In the first mota Ben Schillaci (Mai) grabbed th e ho lesh o t and led t he en tire race with Steve Ha rrelson (Hus) and j ohn Lovett (Bu l) following close behind, trading positions on every lap . With the che ckered flag in sigh t Ben fell giving Harrelson fir st place. Schillaci quickly re-mounted and rode side saddle to finish the race for second. At the st art o f the second mota Steve Harrelson grabbed the holeshot determined to hold o n to the lead. Schillaci got a mediocre start but soo n began to move up through t he pack and within two laps he was breathing down Harrelson's and Lovett's necks. Without a doubt Willy Simons was the fastest man o n the track but a fal l in the second m ota , wh ile lead in g, cost him the overall win . Pillar , although not as fast as Simons, was more co nsistent wi th his first and seco nd pl ace finish, taking the overall win . Simons after his fall, wi th h alf th e mo ta gone, st ill managed to wor k his way fro m last to t hird fo r a second o verall. Scott and Rick Marion h ad a super d ice for the lead in the final ro un d with Kinnier wor kin g th e o u tside lines while Mari on went for th e inside on his sana Hu sky . Kinnier man aged to pull the win but Rick had to settle for fourth o verall despite his fine th ird mot o ride. Marion 's score for the ni ght wa s 5-3- 2. Following Kinnier in the overall were a co up le of Suzuki RM mounted racers , Dave Haagsma and j ohn Bums.
