V) nabbed th e first Division II Amateur place, while Ge n e Rock (Yam) took second. Chuck ( Car tl edge (LTV) was le adi ng the T railbike Experts but a crash left [ Charlie Ha mill Jr. (Yam ) with t he lead to fi nish first. Cartledge regained several ['p laces to take third. David Jones (Hod) and Steve Webb (Suz) were fITSt and l.secon d Amateur Trail. \v :<.·J effery Tait (Yam) surged mead of s the o th er Heavyweight Novices, and s m anaged t o hold off John Wilson (Yam) Jilo t ake the checkered nag. Before the >l d ust had cleared, the Heavyweight I :Amateur/ Expert s were off for the last b ra ce o f the day. Going into the first 1 tum, riders struggled for position with . ~ im Sumners (Ya m) desperately trying ~ ti:> hold o ff the pack. By the end of the s first lap, Larry Roeseler, who was riding iust for fun, had an incredible lead and was puttin g on quite a show. A.C. Bakke n (Hus ) followed, as the official leader, with J im Sumners ~mly hanging on to seco nd. Ed Zarp (Yam) got by fo r sec ond when Su mners overshot a tum and we nt over a cliff.
