Mike Loper re placed Burgess of his position when he tossed his chain; Jim Gibson (Han) came through with a fourth, while Tolar gassed his Suzuki to fifth. Flying Machine Factory 's Scott Cross (Yam ) got the 125 Junior fmal off to a furious pace, holding down Paul Martin (Ha n ), Mark Rogers (Ha n ) and Bre t t Meyer (MM). Martin soon fell victim to the extremely dry surface and engulfed him in a sea of dust, while Miller's latest, Brett Meyer began to put on a berserk display of riding in order to catch Cross. Meyer kept his Elsie's throttle taped, shaving off time and space with every lap . The pair waged a .t re rnendo us battle, wi th the result ending up with Meyer block-passing Cross in a tight comer and walked away with the win . Mark Rogers held o n to th ird , edging out Hugh Goo d o n a n ew H on da. Darrel Brown (M~i) was the undisputed winner m the 250 Intermed iate ac tio n , ru nning away fr om . 'Roc ky McKee (Suz), who in .tu rn ran ,aw ay from Pe te Smith (Mai), spreading o ut t he t op th ree to almost unnoticed 'w hereabo u ts. Mike Sale (Ka w) couldn't get t hings going, riding as another o f the favorites to win, but co uld only edge 'ou t Steve Zoumaris (Su z) . Bill Petras (Mai) was in the middle of things at the start but began to fade as the mota wore on. . Riding in only his third 250 J unio r race on a new Maico , little Dan n y Dilkey made a surprise comeback with an unsurprising holeshot in the final, Ieading a whole contingent of seasoned 250 riders. Ted "Fast" Fatseas soon got aro und the red Maico, and kicked his Suzu ki into high gear and ran away with ~ pair of leathers. Djlkey ran into trouble, and lost his placing when he ~ dropred a footpeg, Carl Gieselman (Suz slipped into third behind Ryan ~ Helz er (Yam) , followed by Stephen Pigage (Yam) and Mark Pete!' (Yam) . • I r THE CRAP If you run your chain dry so it won 't pick up the crap you ride through, you lose as much as 15% of your power. That's enough to win or lose by. On the other hand, if you lube like you do for the street, you pick up all that dirt, which becomes a grinding co mpound that can wear ~our chain and sprockets in a few hundred miles. That's expensive. Either way, you have to constantly adjust your chain. The solution to this messy hassle is the Dense1ube Freedom Chain which has a special lube impreg- ' nated right in the bushing. It automatically lubes from the inside, but only in the amounts that are required for peak efficiency That makes it radically . superior to any other chain you can run. And get this : Denselube requires fewer adjustments because it doesn't stretch or wear like ordinary chain. That's why each Denselube has a 3,000 mile/60 day warranty-the only one in the industry. Get the Denselube Freedom Chain . If you want to win, or just want to cut the crap, it's the only way to go. The sta ndard th ree motos were dropped an d only two motos per class were ru n, but the total lap s were increased to twice as much. Pro winners Bob Ott (Yam), Gregg Toyama (FM F ), Val Tamietti (Mai) and Mike Bell (Ha n ), put on a fantastic show in their respective 10 lap events. Rick Atkins (Han) led the Mini Pros for mota one but gave way to Bob Ott with only three laps remaining. Mota two saw Ott running away from the field to collect the overall trophy. . Atkins settled for second overall. At the slightest nudge of the gate, 16 125 Pros would engulf the well prepared course. Paul Schones (FM F) pulled the holeshot on David Taylor (Ha n ), Cliff Lett (F:M F) and Dave Carlson (FM F). All of a sudden, the invincible Taylor went down and FMF rider Gregg Toyama slammed into second behind Schones. Back in , fifth , Dave Pessy (Han) and Chuc k Lunde (Yam) battled until Pessy kissed the dirt . Toyama stalled th rough the "S" corner while Lett and Carlson spotted second and third p osit ions. After the ten ro un ds , Schon es collected the best finish, Lett second and Carls on th ird . Steve Moore (DG) shot to the lead in th e last of t wo m otos as Toyama an d Carlson ' kn oc ked at his door. Carlson pulled an inside berm mo ve on Toyama for seco n d , then eyed the lea de r, Mo ore, bu t pushed too har d and went down. This opened the door for Taylor, but the mota ended: Moore the winner, Taylor second and then Toyama. The overall trophy went to To ya ma, second best to Schones and third with a 5-4 scoring, Bill Glore (Han).
