NORTHERN DATELINE WINNERS CHOICE... INTER-AM , SOLID ALUMINUM HANDLEBARS s.v.s. money MX By Sallee Hilt on - \ PLYMOlJfH, CAL., MAY 9 Jim Lesniewski (Hus) started out his race day with a good lead built up over three laps in the first 125 Expert moto. What looked like a sure win disintegrated when his piston got too big for its hole. Dan Dobbins (Hon) was next to lead, but that didn't last either. When Dan pulled off to spectate, Cloyse Holland was ready . Kipp Classen (Hon) had gotten off to a bad start. and was dead last. He set up one rider at a time, moving up to second. Chalma Roberts (Hon) had been running third in the first lap and looking strong un til he crashed and found himself eating the exhaust of the entire pack. He didn't like that and pulled through to a fourth , right behind Kenny Boswe ll (Hon) who had worked Up from eighth. In the second moto, Roberts grabbed the lead right from the start, staying there only to lose out to Classen's pressure in the last lap. With the 125 failure behind him, Lesniewski went into the 250 race to win. He led every lap of the first round and was not too seriously challenged. Kevin Henry (Bul) had moved closer in _ the latter part of the race. Allen Berluti (Hus ) had been in second for a few laps but Henry took that. The second moto winner was Henry all the way. Lesniewski seemed to have slowed down some, and it was all he could do to stay in front of Berluti who was pushing. Lesniewski got the overall win as the first moto was longer and the tie-breaker. Henry was paid for' second and Berluti third. • Callfornla City Two - Day Trials 1st - 250cc & 2nd Overall - Mike Hannon 1st - 175cc - Bill Uhl -BenBower Gold Meda l - Cha rley Bethards _ Gold Medal These are only some of the riders who took home gold medals at this two day qualifier.
