The big scorer for Hel ix in the HSMX Championship series, Don Bro w n (Hon), finished sec ond to Tom Holland (Su z) in the second division of 125 Juniors. Hugh Good, who has been runner-up scorer for Helix, broke a primary drive chain in practice and didn 't compete which may have permitted riders from Mt, Miguel High to close in their point lag. John Tessitore (Hon ) from Bonita won both six -lap 12 5 Pro motos, while Randy Hess and Steve Bartley each took a second and third. Hess broke the tie for second by finishing ahead of Bartley in th e last m oto. . Mike Tripes (V am) topped the 250 Pro class after taking the lead early in th e first moto from Mike Stearns. He -easily cap tu red the second with Mike McGowen following and Stearns third. Marty Moates, o n the uncon ven ti onal Ro ko n , led the 500 Pros with a perfect finish in both m o t e s, Second place Dan Steele (Suz) ran 2-3 and Chip Howell (Hus) placed third with a close second to Moates in the las t rnoto . • Re sults in Results Se ction . Croft plugged in for the 500 Pro win while Va l Tamietti whipped up the 250 Pros. Tarniettt's second m o t o lead was short lived as Cro ft 's powerho use roosted on the yellow Ge rm an wonder. Martin continued h is hold on third, while Clark Jones (Suz), Dave Gerig (Suz) and Dan Ellison (Bul) kept a fast , tig ht pace going for fourth and fifth . Croft literally flew away from the pack, leavin g Tarnietti a solitary second, The 125 gang definitely provided the most excitement. Tony Wan ke t (Hon) timed the gate perfectly, pa cing the first moto hard and fast . No one could keep up with the FMF flyers. Alan Smith (Hon) rode extremely hard, making up a mediocre start, finally catching and passing both Mickey Kessler (Ka w) and John Tessitore (Hon). J o hn Tessitore got off to an exp lo sively fast start in the second m o to , heading Smith, Kessle r and both Wan ket s, Tony and Peter. The front runner s paired u p and left the rest of the pack to figh t in the du st storm. Tessi to re and Smith rem ain ed an ou trageous split second apart fo r the re mainder of th e m oto, d esp ite S mith's many inge nio us a ttemp ts at the lead; only to have Tess itore sh ut the door on him. Smith fina lly m ad e a successful m ov e on th e b umpy landscape o f t he u p hill whic h Tessi tore co uldn't argue and whizzed by on the o uts ide line. Tess itore made a couple of (nearly co s tly ] mistakes afterwards an d shaved d o wn his pace a b it.
